A Catholic priest took to Twitter to ask women to dress modestly for church services to protect the purity of the men and people online are not having it.
Father Kevin M. Cusick, an ordained Catholic priest and veteran, wrote a tweet addressed to ladies, writing that a fellow priest was forced to ask a woman at a Catholic mass to cover her shoulders. Cusick went on ask women to please help the priest to protect the purity of men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly.
Cusick added, The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you.
Ladies, a priest I know was forced on Sunday to ask a woman at Mass to cover her shoulders. Please help the priest to protect the purity of the men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly. The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you. Fr. Kevin M. Cusick, LCDR (Ret.) ✝️ (@MCITLFrAphorism) June 3, 2019
The tweet faced almost immediate backlash, with both men and women arguing that women shouldnt have to cover up their bodies to protect the sensibilities of their male counterparts while attending a church service.
A woman's shoulders are not provocative. Women's bodies are not grenades, liable to explode at any moment, replied Australian novelist Jane Caro, adding that this is why she hates organized religion.

Properly disposed means to be in a state of grace (ie. not in a state of mortal sin).
*** Where did you learn this? I don’t see this in the OP. ***
It was on Twitter shortly after he deleted his account. I forget which Priest tweeted it. I don’t think it was gloria.tv or CM’s Twitter.
I think it was an individual Priest’s Account rather than a website’s tweet. Will see if I can find it.
That bishop would be Wilton Gregory and I'm not surprised that he would do it as one his first administrative acts as Archbishop of D.C.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Bergoglio elevates Gregory to the college of cardinals within a year.
1983, very funny. That “rule” flew out the window when a Vatican II Cardinal was interviewed by an American reporter during a break who asked: with changing fashions, the interest of women was would the Council do away with the old head covering practice?
Clearly taken aback by the mundanity of the question, the Cardinal replied, essentially, the topic was trivial and absurd in light of the great spiritual and theological workings going on inside!
This clip was broadcast nationwide. The following Sunday most American women appeared in church SANS veil!
Here’s Fr Cusick explaining:

Yes a general direction to be suitably modest, not a dress code!
As for the nuns at the doorways and in the vatican offering paper shawls and veils, sadly this charming assurance of modesty as gone away in many places.
Sadly.
Interesting. It appears that he made this decision of his own accord though. I would disagree with him that priests shouldn’t opine on women’s dress outside of mass.
It is interesting that this did take place at a Latin Mass, and it makes sense that the woman in question was fairly new to the manner of dress at a TLM versus the banal Novus Ordo service.
It is to be expected that Gregory will cardinal in a year.
Please see post 88. Thank-you.
Absolute BS.
I don’t see a problem with sleeveless tops.
I have a problem with clothes that you have to keep either tugging up or down to keep covered, and usually those are the *chubbier* ones.
And the same for halters and one shoulder bare stuff and shorts that are too short.
Nothing we wouldn’t see on a beach. Although dressing that extreme wouldn’t be appropriate for church. But the priest that sent the tweet has an issue and it ain’t because of uncovered shoulders.
