Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

1 Kings 8

The Dedication of the Temple

62 Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the Lord. 63 Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the Lord: twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the Lord.

64 On that same day the king consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the Lord, and there he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar that stood before the Lord was too small to hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings.

65 So Solomon observed the festival at that time, and all Israel with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. They celebrated it before the Lord our God for seven days and seven days more, fourteen days in all. 66 On the following day he sent the people away. They blessed the king and then went home, joyful and glad in heart for all the good things the Lord had done for his servant David and his people Israel.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

And so, the magnificent building is dedicated to God. And, without God, it would be JUST a building!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A particularly haughty childhood acquaintance once proclaimed:

"Oh, I don't read that Bible! It's so REDUNDANT!"

Why, yes, "Ellie", it IS "redundant. It keeps repeating the same TRUTH over and over because people like YOU don't listen! (needless to say, we aren't BFF's anymore. Oh Well)

Just so there won't be any misunderstanding, the Holy Bible tells this exact story all over again in 2 Chronicles. Not only that, but the Prophets (most specifically Ezekiel, Zechariah, and John the Revalator) refer again and again to this spot on the planet where God chose to make His Presence known. The Temple Mount is the most hotly contested piece of real estate in the world. Newscasters and pundits refer to it as "the holiest site in Judaism and Christianity and the third holiest in Islam." Yet the current custodians of the site celebrate its "third holiest" status by throwing rocks at others who wish to worship there.

Evidently the "redundancy" of Scripture isn't even enough!

Pardon the somewhat acerbic tone of today's musings...I just read the headlines about more riots on the temple Mount THIS VERY MORNING.)

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)

God Bless America!
