Strasbourg, May 27, Interfax - Most people support the construction of churches in Russia, and resistance to this process is a manifestation of irrational emotional anger, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said at Strasbourg Airport upon the conclusion of his visit to France.
Commenting on the statement he made on Sunday that the Orthodox Church builds three churches every day, Patriarch Kirill said 9,000 churches have been built over the past nine years.
"The construction of churches is not the implementation of someone's designs, the designs of someone in the government. It's impossible to build a church by order. Churches are built by people and for people," he said.
Except for some "political-exotic cases," the people actively support the construction of churches, Patriarch Kirill said. "And as long as the people feel the need to have churches, including within walking distance, these divine churches will keep being built," he said.
"If we face an irrational and aggressive reaction to the construction of churches, this is a dark story. If rational factors are lacking and if there is an irrational manifestation of anger, then who might have the anger to oppose the construction of an altar in a church dedicated to our Lord and Savior?" he said.
"Unfortunately, there are people who consciously or unconsciously assist this opponent, including in fighting against churches. I believe this is an exotic and very rare phenomenon, and God forbid some of this should spread around our Orthodox land," he said.
The patriarch said in Strasbourg on Sunday that the Russian Orthodox Church builds three churches a day on average.
I still trust putin not at all and believe he wouldn’t mind seeing harm come to us via his satellite countries.
But he KNOWS that Russia cannot survive without religion.
And he loves his country.
I wish more of our leaders knew that about Christianity AND loved our country more.
Using religion in that way is not the right way.
He loves himself, not his country.
Even Stalin when the Nazis were bearing down on Moscow, knew he had to bring back the Church.
Did he? In what way? I did not know this.

And Roosevelt distributed propaganda on Germany to make it look like they were worse oppressors of Christianity.

You have a point here. They are opening 3 Churches every day and closing 4 schools at the very same time. It is becoming fishy.
Stalin allowed churches to hold mass during the war and had the persecution of priests by the NKVD toned down. Propaganda posters would sometime have images of Russian saints and religious figures from the past printed up. The Reds were appealing to everything and anything connected to “Mother Russia’’ in an effort to gin up patriotism for the war effort.After the war it was all stopped.

Plus the Rev.Franklin Graham is asking for prayers this coming Sunday for both.
And yet so many here revere him.
I hate to disagree with fellow FReepers, but they are wrong in doing so.
I hear revered Graham is having a Prayer Day for Trump AND putin???
I hope that’s wrong. There’s quite a difference between the two.
