not defendign or condemning as i don’t know what he actually said- but here’s an interview with Rick in which he addresses the claim he said both religions worship the same God:

So let me address each one individually: First, as I’ve already said, Christians have a fundamentally different view of God than Muslims. We worship Jesus as God. Muslims don’t. Our God is Jesus, not Allah. Colossians 2:9 “For in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Second, while we urge our members to build friendships with everyone in our community, including Muslims and other faiths, (”Love your neighbor as yourself”), our church has never had any partnership with a mosque. Friendship and partnership are two very different levels of commitment. Some of our members have hosted a Bible study with Muslim friends, which I applaud, but I’ve never been to it, and a Bible study certainly isn’t any kind of partnership or merger! It’s just crazy that a simple Bible Study where people explore Scripture with non-Christians would be reported as a partnership and others would interpret that as a plan for a new compromised religion. Just crazy! Third, as both an Evangelical and as an evangelist, anyone who knows me and my 40 year track record of ministry that I would never agree to “not evangelizing” anyone! I am commanded by my Savior to share the Good News with all people everywhere, all the time, in every way possible! Anyone who’s heard me teach knows that my heart beats for bringing others to Jesus.”

I teach, and as kids were leaving for Christmas break one year I was wishing them a Merry Christmas as they walked out of the door. On girl says, “But I’m Jewish.” I said, “So was Jesus. Have a Happy Hanukkah and a Merry Christmas.”
Every school should have at least one atheist teacher on hand, right?
So, come Christmas vacation, assign that teacher to oversee detention, and all the kids that want to be offended by Christianity or aren’t Christians can show up, every day, all day, and sit quietly and study.
What a wonderful story this is about the saving of a soul who most Jews of the time, including the disciples, would have avoided completely. As usual, Jesus is beautifully shocking and surprising in his words and actions.

Again, I’m not defending him as i don’t know much about him- but many times soemthign false will be claimed abotu someone, and it spreads like wildfire, and soon becomes the ‘New Truth”- and the person is defamed unfairly- as for the claim of ‘building bridges- Christ reached out to Samaritans, ate with them- and probably could have been accused of ‘building bridges with Dogs’ (Samaritans and gentiles were hated by Jews) by ‘Religious people’ in His time-
If they truly believe this, why haven’t they also merged with the roman catholic church?
If we’re all serving the same God, why aren’t they pushing for merging all the denominations together?

Our church does a bunch of work over in Africa with people (mostly kids) that are orphans or refugees from the various civil wars. While it is terrible for those folks, the numbers of muslims turning to Christianity is huge. Africa has the fastest growth in Christianity iirc. China is #2 I think.
