Try to think in terms of symbols just a little. Cultures where the vast majority of people are illiterate, like 12th century France, operate by symbols and pictures, not words in printed texts.

Perhaps I should have used the term dissolution of the monasteries when speaking of Henry VIII's destruction of property/buildings/monastic libraries, many of which consisted of abbeys and priories owned by those same monasteries. He was after the wealth and property of the Catholic Church.

When satan fell in creations past, a third of the angels cast their lot with satan. satan demanded he be worshiped. The war between good and evil was revived when satan enticed the first couple in the Garden.
It has been stated on this thread that the use of these demonic characters are to ward off evil spirits. Does anyone really believe that demonic forces are scared off when they see statues created and adorned after their kind?
It has also been claimed that God dwells in the “house of worship” Can anyone really believe that God dwells in a house of “worship” which is adorned with demonic symbolism?
Water spouts do serve a useful purpose. But why create an appearance of evil when a simple drainpipe would serve the same purpose?
I don’t post these comments as a means of criticism, but rather as a means to reflect on Scriptures. We must reflect on the Word of God, not traditions.

Except as I have shown, he didn’t actually destroy all those things. He only went after the monasteries and convents. Perhaps those were the driving institutions behind the industrial revolution but I’m not see the connection.
There was a monastery located in the heart of the area in England that later birthed the industrial revolution (due to the easy access to both coal and iron ore).
Those monks specialized in blacksmithery and iron work. They also did "engineering research" into those things, and were just on the verge of inventing the Bessemer process.
Ole Henry disbanded that monastery, and the technology was lost. Hence, the first Industrial Revolution died aborning.

Catholicism covers everything. They are not puritanical sissies. Demons are SUBJECT to the authority of the true Christian Church founded by Christ.
