Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Samuel 5

David Conquers Jerusalem

6 The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, “You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.” They thought, “David cannot get in here.” 7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.

8 On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those ‘lame and blind’ who are David’s enemies.[a]” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”

9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces[b] inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.

11 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David. 12 Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. 14 These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16 Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.

This is probably the First Biblical Reference to Jerusalem as both the political and spiritual capitol of Israel.

LORD,we Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
We pray for peace to flow like Living Water from the One True Rock and Redeemer.
Like Cool Refreshing Water from the Stricken Rock in the Desert,
Refresh Your People Israel, and give them rest from their enemies,
who press in from all sides.
Be a Fresh Blue Oasis for Them
in the midst of a harsh dry Wilderness.

We pray also for the few faithful leaders in the USA that care for Israel and Her People.
May They be refreshed and strengthened.
We pray for Bibi and others in Israel's government that they may be refreshed by the Living Water of the Rock.
We pray for and END to Antisemitism,
Piracy, Hostage-Taking, and Slavery everywhere in the World.
We lift up Jews and Christians who are STILL in Bondage in Hostile Countries EVEN in these Modern Times.
May they Be Refreshed.
We Eagerly and Anxiously Await the Glorious Coming of Messiah, May it be SOON, Please God!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I watched in horror as vicious flames engulfed the 900-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Watching the iconic spire fall was as wrenching and heartbreaking as watching the World Trade Center fall. As an artist, an History enthusiast, a Christian, and a staunch supporter of Western Civilization, I was particularly struck by the sight.

And, once again, there are no coincidences. This horror took place on the Monday of the Latin Christian Holy Week, and just as we were looking at the Establishment of Jerusalem as the Political and Spiritual Capital of Judea-Christian Civilization. Today we see David hiring the best carpenters and stonemasons to build his palace and other public buildings. The Jebusites may argue that "they were there first" but they had not done much with the city, and there are no Jebusites around now to contest it. No...it was David who put Jerusalem "on the map".

David's construction projects were amazing, but it was Solomon who would build the Great Temple. This would eventually be destroyed by the Babylonians, and was later reconstructed by Nehemiah and Zerubabel, and expanded by Herod the Great. And yet...at the beginning of "Holy Week" around 33AD, we have this:

1As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look at the magnificent stones and buildings!” 2“Do you see all these great buildings?” Jesus replied. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be toppled.” (Mark 13)

This was, of course, fulfilled in 70AD, with the disastrous destruction of Jerusalem by Titus and his Roman Legions. The People of Israel became scattered all over the world and endured tremendous hardship for nearly 2000 years. And, in 1967, Jerusalem became theirs once again. But it takes more effort to KEEP a thing than to GET it.

And we shall see that time and time again.
