Allegations of sexual abuse trailed John Capparelli, a former priest, for decades, resurfacing in the years after the Archdiocese of Newark removed him from ministry. There were the lawsuits from accusers, and last month his name was included on a list published by the Roman Catholic Church in New Jersey that identified priests who had been credibly accused of sexual abuse.
On Saturday, Mr. Capparelli was found fatally shot in his home in Nevada, and the authorities there said that his death was being investigated as a homicide.
The police said that officers found Mr. Capparellis body in his kitchen after being sent to do a wellness check at his home in Henderson, Nev., a city of 300,000 people just outside Las Vegas, where he has lived for the past few years.
A representative for the Clark County coroners office said on Tuesday that Mr. Capparelli, 70, had a single gunshot wound to the neck and that the medical examiner had ruled his death a homicide.
In a statement, the Henderson Police Department said that investigators have not identified a suspect but were following up on developed leads and cited suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Police officials declined to elaborate beyond the statement, and said that the investigation was continuing

I am not a fan of lynchings or so called vigilante justice for two reasons. First, it represents a breakdown in the rule of law which eventually tends to lead to an authoritarian reaction. And secondly, because those who are in fact the perpetrators of crimes go into the history books as victims. And that is an affront to justice.
Sadly, if the pervert crowd gets their way, and pedophilia is normalized, vigilante justice will be all that is left.
It’s not as if people ever get falsely accused of rape or anything.
A good beating surely would have sufficed.
A victim may have tracked him down.
If they guy/gal who killed him was raped by him then...
If he did rape kids, I’m glad he got smoked.
Too bad nobody stopped Michael Jackson. It makes me sick what that creep got away with using his stupid act.
And that's the other reason to oppose lynching and vigilante justice. A true fair trial (if such things are still possible ...) protects the innocent and positively identifies the guilty.
No fan of pervs or child molesters but we have a standard in this nation which is innocent until proven guilty, I’m not a total fan of trial by media these days.
I know what you mean, but we live in the age of social media, and anyone could get a case whomped up against them. Just think about it for a second.
I understand, and thus the first part of my sentence.
“we have a standard in this nation which is innocent until proven guilty
If you were raped by a Catholic Priest, you would surely know if he was innocent or guilty...
Vigilantism is caused by the breakdown of the rule of law.
If you expect justice, you have reason to wait for it to arrive. If you expect no justice will ever come, the only way you are ever getting it is to get it yourself.
Our justice system has been slowly infiltrated by the concept of “social justice,” and the result is no justice.
Well, he won’t abuse anyone again.
And that man would be getting butt raped in jail after he’s found guilty, it needs to go to the courts, just not really a fan of vigilante justice, I prefer to live in a civilized society.
why reward him?
I’m going to go out on a limb, and guess that you weren’t repeatedly ass raped by a priest.
Our society is barely civilized, and justice is often not the result.
