Freedom From Human Rules

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Our Father In Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Most Holy Name!
For Your Alone Are Worthy of Our Worship,
For You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are the True God!
You Are The Alpha and the Omega
The Aleph-Tav
The Beginning and the End
The Great "I AM"
With Your Most Holy Name
Your Declare Your Existence.
In The Face of an Unbelieving World.
You tell us, "I AM", "I Exist!" "Believe!".
Your Omnipotence,
Omniscience,
And Omnipresence are Declared in Your Name.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,

We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,

and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem






In previous centuries, hospitals, orphanages, and old-age homes were run by Religious organizations. To this day, the names of these institutions reflect their origins. Names like "Mount Sinai", "Holy Cross", St. Jude's Hospital", etc, remind us that, once upon a time, the world's religions were the ones who served the public in these ways.

Back in the 1940's, my aunt Mary got a job in one of these great institutions in the food service department. The hospital was founded by a Christian Denomination that attempted to keep the law of Moses with regard to foods. (The hospital still exists, but only its name reflects its religious origin). Anyway, the serving of Kosher meats on such a large scale was so difficult that the hospital eschewed meat entirely, and served up a plethora of "meat substitutes". Each new attempt was a source of mirth and hilarity, when Mary came home and described the latest concoction.

There were peanut butter patties disguised as a hamburger, brown lentils shaped into something that looked like a lamb chop, and the ubiquitous soybean traveling incognito as "meatloaf". It was just nasty. Now the hospital has merged with the largest Jewish hospital in the region, and due to the secularization of health care, NEITHER of them keep Kosher.

As much as I love my Brothers and Sisters from that denomination, (and their basic doctrines are pretty sound except for that meat thing) I would have to disagree on their dietary restrictions, especially as they enforced their menu upon others who did not believe the same. And, not only do I disagree with them, but so does St. Paul! He touches upon this issue in other letters, so it was not an isolated problem with the Colossians.

Now, I am about to embark upon a very difficult weekend, moving my nephew from the Boston area to the North Woods of Maine. My sister will be staying with me as we coordinate this epic journey, and there is a blizzard coming. (UGH!). So I won't be posting the thread this weekend, and will pick it up again on either Monday or Tuesday. See you then!

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Prayers up for you for travel this weekend.

Pack your car with blankets, water, and food and keep a full tank of gas.

Portsmouth had pretty cheap gas when we went through there last month.
