Do not 'take' God's name in vain versus 'use' God's name in vain. The Commandment isn't really about swearing when you consider the translation should be 'use' and not 'take' - it's about Thou shall not use God's name to do evil. (As in, unless the Lord builds the house the workers labor in vain.)

The Hebrew word is ‘tisa’ (tav shin alef) which does indeed mean ‘take’ as in ‘take an oath’.
