Did you actually read his homily, or are you just piling on because everyone else is? His homily was completely orthodox and right on the money.

I've read the priest's words that have been reported on another link and another article.

His words may have been perfect Roman Catholic dogma....but they were not New Testament Christianity by a long shot.

Nobody (not even the priest) is entitled to give a eulogy at a Catholic funeral. That belongs at a wake or afterwards. I know it's done, sometimes, but it's technically an abuse.

Man....ya'll have a rule for everything. Kinda reminds me of Islam in a way.

Rome should just adopt the OT Law. Ya'll are at up with rule.

Got any evidence to support that specious conjecture?

The Catholic Church is corrupt beyond belief. Same for the public school system.

Thank you for your comment that has nothing to do with this thread...truly, we appreciate it.

The Catholic priesthood is rife with pedophiles and pederasts.

What does this have to do the article?

It sounds like you are unfamiliar with the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. That's what the coach was doing.

But what does he know about family?

It is highly likely that he grew up in one.

You sound like someone than doesn’t understand anything about the immemorial Christian faith.

Suicide is a mortal sin. The purpose of a Catholic funeral is as a witness to the living as to Christian truth. At one time, the prayer “Dies Irae” (Day of Ire) was recited in a Catholic funeral. Here is a link; you would gain greatly by reading and considering it.

http://www.franciscan-archive.org/de_celano/opera/diesirae.html

I think the worst thing that has happened in religious life is Vatican II, where no two Masses are the same, no two priests believe in the same theology, and secular humanism and situational ethics entered the church. No less than Pope Paul VI, the implementer of Vatican II and the “novus ordo” Mass, even admitted at the end of his life “The smoke of Satan has entered the temple”.

I’m sorry that the priest upset the boy’s parents. I’m also sorry the coach went where he wasn’t welcome. However, it doesn’t change traditional Catholic teaching. It also highlights St. Paul’s prophecy that someday the church would be reduced to a “remnant” of the faithful.

[There is only one avenue for salvation....faith in Christ.]
..................................
Agreed.

[There is nothing comforting not knowing whether your child is going to Heaven or not. Roman Catholicism teaches their believers don’t know for sure if they’ve made it.

Fortunately, the New Testament contains the promises of Christ that for those who believe in Him they will have eternal life.]
.......................................
I’ve often wondered if that’s why families keep decorating the spot the family member was last remembered...like in vehicle accidents. Flowers will be left in the area where the car accident happened, for many years.

I’ve heard parents tell their children they’ll go to hell if they commit suicide...I’ve often wondered, too, if that was a way to ‘scare the hell out of them’ hoping they won’t choose that avenue to end their life.

A Sunday School teacher once said that if people got a glimpse of heaven, there might be more suicides committed. He was trying to comfort a family that had lost a family member to it.

Or did he make a target of this kid to make some of his A players happy or try to be popular with a certain segment of the team.

I’ve seen it. Those coaches, like this one, don’t last long.

You might be right though .... either way showing up somewhere he wasn’t wanted is just being an ass.

My son committed suicide. At first they thought it was murder. It's still an open case.I saw demons in a dream 3 days before he died in a dream..The first time I work up I said a prayer, the 2nd time I woke up I prayed to Our Lady because they were coming closer. The 3rd time I woke up and and prayed to St Joseph. They said their name.We all committed suicide. They were coming for my son.

Suicide is no less covered under the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ than any other sin..... physician assisted suicide is as well as abortion....all of these are ‘taking’ life...it is murder regardless how it’s peddled.

Murder was regarded by God as a capital offense because of the basis of the image of God in man....but I do not believe suicide is the unforgivable sin any more than other forms of murder. .There is no specific punishment mentioned for attempted suicide, no specific law is found in Scripture against this crime; it is inclusive in the prohibition against murder...

Further I don’t think we are able to judge in this area what was going on in a person’s heart at the time of their exit, only God would know.

What I do know is whatever life has thrown at any of us God is greater and he wants to give us a hope and purpose to live, our joy will be found when we allow God to have hold of our life and Christ makes all things new.....

God has plans that are good for all, The Devil and his kingdom wants to bring one to ruin. To choose the Lord Jesus is to choose life. He is there waiting to deliver anyone from the darkness that surrounds them.
