Thoughts on President George H. W. Bush
12/01/2018 | Yomin Postelnik

A few exceptional things stand out about President George H. W. Bush. First and foremost, the Soviet Union, which was on its last legs after 8 years of Reagan-Bush, finally collapsed under his watch. The Evil Empire falling with Dukakis as its main foe seems improbable at best.

He was an example to society and to the next generation. He was also the first to battle someone who ended up eroding societal values and that too is a great credit to him.

He recognized the danger of Iraq. Saddam Hussein had the fourth most powerful army in the world and was a menace to his neighbors and a murderer of millions.

From a spiritual aspect, the Messianic Era, when "nations... will beat swords into plow shears," happens in stages (there can be a 40 year initerval, or less based on merit, between the initial miracles and the manifestation of the eternal redemption). In 1991, when the US under Pres. Bush's leadership, diverted funds to feed the starving Kurds in the aftermath of the Gulf War, the Lubavitcher Rebbe pointed out how this was the first time ever that nations would feed another nation's hungry with absolutely no benefit to themselves at all. This, he said, was the beginning of this prophecy. This happened under a president who made kindness his mission, President George H. W. Bush.

Saddam's containment was also of profound spiritual benefit. During the last weekend of the war, the Rebbe commented on the rumor that Saddam had fled his palace. He specifically said that it's a rumor (untrue at the time), but one with significance. When the speech was being published the Rebbe edited the draft, writing next to those words, "od chazon lmoed," it will come to pass in the appropriate time, something that seemed improbable, as the war was winding down.

Saddam was no puny enemy, as people made him to be for the purposes of dishonest politics. Aside from the 2 million he killed in the region, he was also cutting 10k and 25k checks to suicide bombers in Israel. His attempted assassination of by then former President GHW Bush showed that he was capable of trying to transfer or spread such havoc to America and GHWB's son, 43, was right for calling the danger what it was.

The Rebbe also explained at the time that the famous quote of our Sages, that Tzur, the principal city of Babylon, was built from the destruction (gold, silver, marble, etc.) of Jerusalem, is applicable to our times in reverse. When evil in the place of Babylon is eradicated, Jerusalem is built up materially and spiritually. Indeed, Saddam was finally captured on Yud Tes Kislev (the holiday of the 19th of Kislev, which focuses on spreading Chassidus, a remarkable part of Torah, which concentrates on developing ultimate fear and love of G-d and understanding that which we can understand of His interactions in the world) in Iraq during the 9th hour of the night (G-d runs the world differently with each hour). Fourteen years later, on Yud Tes Kislev in the 9th hour of the night in Jerusalem, Israel was declared by the leading nation of the world, Pres. Bush and Pres. Trump's America, as the eternal capital of the world. The word "eternal" is itself a clear recognition of G-d Almighty by the world, another part of the prophecy of the complete and eternal redemption. This process started under President Bush 41's watch.

When leadership was removed from the WW2 generation, the world lost competent leadership and elders who youth naturally respected. The world would have been much better off keeping that generation in charge for as long as possible.

It’s rumored he ran the CIA op to kill JFK in Dallas.

We know for a fact he pushed for the NWO, one world government. This alone means he was evil.

Yes I had seen reports he ran the Cuba operations till JFK cut his legs out from under him and others due of the Bay of Pigs...Member of the Bilderburg group and Skull and Crossbones...other NWO groups...

Just to be clear, I like President Trump very much. The acts of leaders are also in G-d’s hands. There were missed opportunities, but there was also much good that was done. I shudder to think of what would have happened had Dukakis won.

Well at least GHWB spared us a Dukakis presidency and put Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court.

Bush lost due to the efforts of someone besides Clinton.

Breaking his “read my lips” no new tax pledge + Perot cost him re-election. The media “doesn’t know the cost of milk” line and picture of H.W. looking at his watch during the debate was used by the partisan media repeatedly as free campaign contribution to the Clintons probably cost him votes too but to a lesser degree. H.W. taught W well on how to trust and how not to fight back against your enemies.

The “line in the sand” to get Iraq out of Kuwait .... his leadership used the UN to build the coalition despite significant media and democrap opposition. He achieved his narrow goal of getting Iraq out of Kuwait, kept Schwartzkopf from marching up the highway into Baghdad, basically had a containment policy for Iraq. We should not forget the view that many politicians still thought in Cold War terms that the Soviets would invade from the north. In hindsight his containment policy was not the right answer, though I do not profess to know the right answer. Unfortunately George Washington’s admonition about foreign entanglements was long gone when H.W. came into office.

As another FReeper wrote, H.W. was better than any democrap. But I still shake my head, very disappointed, how he gave in to the lying $3-cut-never-to ever-happen democrap lie to break his promise. And that changed history.

GHW Bush voted for Hillary. Hard for me to think much of him even though I would like too.

Cozying up to Bubba and Hillary knowing full well that Bubba was a RAPIST and abuser of women and that Hillary enabled his actions was enough to turn me permanently against Bush

Quite possibly the 3rd or 4th worst President of the 20th Century, after Carter, Wilson, and LBJ.

JFK has to be high on that liST

Good point, though I recall the “kinder, gentler nation” and “100o points of light” was in response to democraps who were constantly harping on how heartless the Republican party continued to be. It was used to ridicule H.W. and keep other GOP silent.

It was absolutely a horrible decision because then Clinton kept them there and we all know what happened next. Marines being dragged through the street by half-naked POS African tribesman.

YES it was but put the blame on the MSM with the constant showing starving children etc etc night after night on TV forcing Bush to intervene

“There might be some darker things about GHW Bush that most of us don’t know about.”

When I heard that he couldn’t recall where he was when JFK was shot, I figured there was something fishy going on. Who doesn’t remember that? Turns out, IIRC, he was in Dallas. C’mon 41, give us a break.

I thought he would continue Ronald Reagan’s policies. He didn’t.

During his campaign his stupid statement about promising A KINDER MORE GENTLE ADMINISTRATION ( as opposed to Reagan's mean nasty one I suppose ) should have been a clue

“That’s because Bush was NOT conservative”

Last night on Fox I was watching the godforsaken, never-ending coverage of Bush. One talking head said that Bush was a Conservative in that he wanted to “conserve” parts of the Constitution that were good. And he wanted to change parts that needed changing. I call that explanation of conservatism pitiful.

Great point ... and the fact that he had to go public with his vote says it all. Why would he do it? My guess is he could not get over the fact that Jeb was exposed for what he wasn’t in the primary against Trump.

I have some "thoughts" too.

The world is a much better place without the death and despair the Bush family wrought. Sick of hearing about this POS and his family of retarded, globalist, liberal despair-bringers.

BYE

Wall to wall Bush on Fox... can’t take that much Bush. They ruined the little respect I had for that family. GW did the unthinkable... letting obams off the hook completely when we needed him... and then attacking Pres Trump.. it was uncalled for. And Barbara considered bill clinton a sort of son... Laura Bush turned out to be a dem... or liberal rep... Jeb thought he would be President...

All of them soured me on the Bush family.

“Great in his time”......What in the hell is wrong with you? Good God, pay attention! The New World Order Bush folks are pure scum! To think that there are FReepers who think these Globalist pukes are okay is really something! Grow up sonny! Get a clue!***

Why don’t you tell us what you really think.. :)
