Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As Boston Irish Democrats who had relatives living and working in the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis, my family had a tradition to loathe Richard Nixon. I was only 8 years old during the 1960 Presidential Election, but I remember getting into a fist fight in the schoolyard with a bully named Judy, because I was wearing a JFK campaign button. I didn't even know why I hated Nixon, but it was the thing to do. In my very first Presidential Election years later, I cast my first vote ever AGAINST Nixon, but he won anyway. I was horrified.

Then came Watergate. To me, it seemed like the very worst scandal that could ever hit the White House. (I have since been shown that Watergate was NOTHING compared to scandals that have infected the Oval Office). Evidently, I was not alone in my horror, because since then, EVERY scandal emanating from our government has "GATE" at the end of it. Iran-GATE, Russia-GATE, Monica-GATE, etc. Watergate make a big impression on everybody, not just the Nixon-haters.

Time and maturity have mellowed my views of Richard Nixon, but in 1981, when I had been very recently Born Again, I saw a best selling book lining the shelves of the Bookstore. It was called "Born Again" so I wanted to read it.

OMG! It was written by Chuck Colson! A Watergate Guy! A Friend of the EEEvil Richard Nixon! YIKES! How could I possibly want to read a book by THAT guy?

Saul's reputation among the Believers in Damascus was even worse than being "A Watergate Guy". Saul had actually participated in the arrest and subsequent MURDER of Christians! He did this under the auspices of the Religious Leaders of their own Faith, as the earliest Believers were Jews. How could he have possibly changed so much?

Well, that's what being "Born Again" means.

Oh, and By The Way, I voted for Ronnie in 1980. First time I EVER voted for someone with an "R" after their name. And I have never turned back.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Another great story! Reagan used to be a Democrat. So was Trump. My mother was a Democrat, too, but she hated LBJ. (Had bumper sticker that said: I eat Montana Beef, not LBJ Baloney. Voted for Goldwater in 1964. And Nixon in 1968.)
