I’ve looked into it and, yes, that belief has some merit.
On a somewhat related note: At the end of revelation 21, not all can enter the new Jerusalem. So, what about all that real estate outside of Jerusalem? It appears there will be two classes in that age. Those that may enter the New Jerusalem, and those that may not.
I have to admit that after doing some studying of the Hebrew “olam” and the greek, Aion and its derivatives, I no longer see the time after this age as “eternity”. I see it as a string of ages, just as the “church” age was preceded by ages.
And, at the end of the day, I honestly have to ask, how many ages were there before Genesis 1:3. Could there have been thousands? We don’t know. The bible is silent on it. In the beginning he created the heavens and the earth, and then the six days begin with Genesis 1:3
Is it possible that the earth is like a canvas/garden to God, creating, nurturing, harvesting, and then clearing the surface to do it all over again? And as with a painting with multiple paintings below the surface of the current painting, peel back the paint and you find remnants of the previous painting.
Or dig a hole and find dinosaur bones...
