Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Gospel of John

(New Testament)

John 9

The Pharisees Investigate the Healing

13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”

16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”

But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.

17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.”

The man replied, “He is a prophet.”

18 They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man’s parents. 19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?”

20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. 23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”

24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.”

25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”

28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.”

30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.

(End of Scripture Passage)

The people in power know that in a direct confrontation with Jesus, they will lose the argument. This has happened already. So the next best thing is to go after those people who have benefited from Him!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Those who are in power, and have been there for a long time, have two imperatives:

1. To do whatever they were hired or elected to do.

and

2. To stay in that position of power as long as possible.

We see that all the time with the resistance to Term Limits. Who is going to vote themselves out of a job? While Sunday School teachers might make up songs about the wickedness of the Pharisees (and indeed, "Pharisee" has become a pejorative in our language), these men were simply doing what people in power have been doing for millennia. Of course, the added cloak of religious piety is probably what makes them seem even more evil than the average swamp-dwelling politician.

A man who had been born blind was suddenly given his sight. Even in our own modern times, such an achievement would flash around the world on the Internet with millions of views and accolades. The Nobel Prize for Medicine would be a shoo-in for the Medical Team or Doctor that achieved this miracle. There would be documentaries, docudramas, movies, and maybe even a Musical on Broadway (although they might change the ethnicity or sexual orientation of the Medical Team to make it more "edgy and inclusive" LOL). Everybody would be so happy for the person who was the first to receive their sight with this new procedure.

But...you can bet there would also be a group who are not happy about this new advancement. Perhaps it is an industry that profits from blindness, or maybe even a medical team that had been trying to achieve this miracle but failed. In any case, you soon hear the naysayers and grumblers who say that the miracle was achieved with illegal experiments, unethical practices, eyes that were stolen from Chinese Political Prisoners, or whatever. Soon a parade of "witnesses" appear on the Internet, trying to discredit the Award-Winning Medical Team that gave the man-born-blind his sight. When that doesn't work, they attack the man-born-blind himself, and even go after his family!

Soon, the miracle gets so shrouded in controversy and disgrace that people who could benefit from the procedure are shying away from it.

This sad tale is repeated in religion, politics, medicine, business, and even interpersonal relationships. Pharisees being pharisees is nothing new. We watch it every day on the news.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Christ and the Man Born Blind"
El Greco

= _ HEY brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

And it was the sabbath day when Jesus
made the clay, and opened his eyes.

Then again the Pharisees also asked him
how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put
clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.

And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. _______________________________________________John 9:13-34 (KJV)

Though the Pharisees emphasized the synagogue to detract from the Sadducees, and the Roman influences then corrupting The Temple and its practices. Modern Orthodox Judaism has its roots in the Pharisaic movement.

God abide in You and Yours.

Absolutely, onedoug. The Pharisees were really between a rock and a hard place. The Romans occupying their home could smash them at any time. And the Sadducees were not helpful either, as they eschewed the “supernatural”.

One wonders what any of us would do in such a position.
