The priests presence at the World Meeting of Families caused considerable controversy before he took the stage.
DUBLIN Jesuit Fr. James Martin addressed Thursday more than 1,000 people at the World Meeting of Families in Dublin.
His Aug. 23 talk, Showing Welcome and Respect in our Parishes for LGBT People and their Families, encouraged Catholics to welcome LGBT persons and their families, into parish life.
The priest said those with homophobic pastors, either silently or overtly, are out of luck.
Parishes, he said, should strive to listen to LGBT parishioners trust that the Holy Spirit will guide them in their formation as Christians and Catholics, rather than simply repeating Church teaching without considering their lived experience.
Martins speech warned: Dont reduce LGBT people to the call to chastity we all share.
LGBT people are more than their sexual lives, he said, and if you talk about chastity with LGBT people, do it as much with straight people.
Martin is the author of Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity. The book drew praise from Cardinal Kevin Farrell, prefect of the Vaticans Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, and organizer of the World Meeting of Families.
However, critics say the book does not directly address Catholic teaching on celibacy and chastity or engage with Catholics who identify as LGBT while observing the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. The book was criticized by Cardinal Robert Sarah, Archbishop Charles Chaput, and other Church leaders.
New Ways Ministry, a dissenting Catholic group that has been the subject of warnings from the U.S. bishops and the Vatican for confusing Catholic teaching, awarded Fr. Martin in 2016 for having helped to expand the dialogue on LGBT issues in the Catholic.......

Its long overdue - Swamp Draining time.
Romans 1:18-32 deals with a far wider range of people than just the homosexuals. But the common strain seem to be celebrating and accepting homosexuality rather than calling for repentance.
Attitudes about homosexuality seems to be something like a canary in a coal mine. When the bird gets sick you’ve already been in bad air. The correct response is to get to where there is good air ... not to press deeper into the mine celebrating what great miners you are.
There is only once incident in recorded history where the leadership and the people repented. (hint: Jonah). Is there evidence of any repentance in the Catholic leadership yet?
Sodomy nazis invented the word homophobia to disparage and prevent rational thinking on same-sex attraction disorder.
The laicization of this vile pervert is way overdue. Catholics should refuse to participate in anything he does.
“Is there evidence of any repentance in the Catholic leadership yet?”
The sodomites will never repent. They belong to Satan. (Although some may escape; only God knows.)
However, I believe that there are some worthy Bishops. O’Brien and Chaput come to mind.
Laicization???
I have a stake, a can of kerosene, and a sturdy rope. Do you have a lighter?
While I understand and sympathize with those feelings, I must keep reminding myself that God said not to murder people.
One thing the church must do is quit molesting little children. By the millions!!
Is the execution of a just sentence by legitimate authority “murder”?
My Church is in complete scandal!
This guy obviously hasn’t read the Bible.
The Bible provides Gods blueprint for marriage and for His good gift of sex in Genesis 2:24. The gift is only to be enjoyed within a marriage between a man and a woman.
There are no exceptions suggested, such as homosexual partnerships. From Genesis on, the Bible praises the marriage of a man and a woman, but it speaks only negatively of homosexual behavior whenever it is mentioned.
The Old Testament states, Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13). The New Testament agrees, listing homosexual offenders among a list of people who will not inherit the kingdom of God unless they are cleansed through Christ (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
Other passages are Genesis, chapter 19; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Timothy 1:8-11; and Jude, verse 7. However, it is important to note that the Bible speaks only of homosexual behavior (which would include lustchoosing to fantasize about behavior), not unchosen feelings. God will not judge a Christian guilty for his or her involuntary feelings.
Sometimes it is said that the Bible does not record any words of Jesus about homosexuality, and therefore it must be acceptable to God. However, the Bible does not record sayings of Jesus about a number of other specific sins either. When people asked Jesus about marriage, He told them to remember what Genesis said about Gods plan for marriage (Matthew 19:1-12). So, in this sense, Jesus did have something to say about homosexual partnerships. God only blessed sex within the committed marriage relationship of a man and a woman.
Wish he had. It would have saved a lot of electricity.

He will take care of them. See Sodom and Gomorrah for reference.
If I tell people the reason America is falling is that we banned prayer, aborted babies, and now approved sodomy, is that we banned prayer and Bible reading, they look at you kinda funny. If I ask them if the believe the Bible, they will say yes, every word, but they haven't read it. God knows the end from the beginning and knows the church will fall into apostasy and heresy, and then tells us what He will do, but we just keep digging the hole.
Some even say they can't read Revelation because it scares them and then vote Democrat. Romans 1:32 says even though you don't actually do the listed sins, if you approve of them you are just as guilty. If a Christian votes Democrat, they are taking on the platform.
I remember watching the Dem convention and they took 3 votes to take the word "GOD" out of their platform. The MC kept taking the vote and finally just said the "No's" had it because he knew it would be all over the news the next day.
Jesus said He would come back as it was in the days of Noah, and Lot. Noah's Flood was due to fallen angels having sex with daughters of men and they produced Chimera's called Nephilim.( demons) The earth was corrupt and Noah was the only man that was "perfect in his generations". God killed every breathing thing that had corrupted the image of God. Of course the days of Lot should be self explanatory.Jesus knew the slide toward evil that would come and we are neck deep right now. We also know that when Jerusalem is taken back by the Jews, Jesus will come within one generation. Scripture says a generation is 70-80 years. 1967+70= 2037or 2047 if it's 80. Personally, I don't think we can make it 20 more years.
How many Christians are willing to denounce sodomy publicly? I see the talking heads on TV that come to work with ashes on their foreheads, but support abortion and sodomy. It's 60-70% that supports all this sodomite transgender crap. 80% say they are Christians. Somebody is lying.
People have worried about who is the Antichrist and what is the mark of the Beast, but they take the mark every day. When you make a choice and choose evil, you are his. Jesus said "My People hear my voice". If you claim Christ and won't say sodomy is wrong to save your job, you have already decided to take the mark. When you look at your wives and children and know they won't eat and have a roof over them, you have already demonstrated what you will do. Right now, today, immediately, a Christian is almost unemployable. Every company of any size makes employees sign a policy paper from HR to not discriminate today. The county clerk that refused to sign gay marriage licenses was already put in jail. God is about to filter out a whole bunch of lukewarm fence sitters getting ready for the Rapture. Mat 25 speaks of foolish virgins being left behind. "Virgins" in Scripture refers to "Christians". Many "Christians that are thinking they will go in the Rapture will remain to face the Beast. Jesus is looking for a Bride, not a guy that kinda knows a few things about Him and bought fire insurance 20 years ago. If you don't love Him more than your life, you will lose it.
Then they will have to refuse the mark and get beheaded to go to Heaven. The whole Bible stresses that we need to kill the flesh, put off the flesh, leave the old man behind. If you say what people with itchy ears want you to say, the flesh is still alive. If you decide to take the mark, you might live a couple more years and then go to hell.
“Is the execution of a just sentence by legitimate authority murder?”
Of course not, but our Constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment, so I don’t see that as a reasonable possibility.
“He will take care of them. See Sodom and Gomorrah for reference.”
I believe that to be true, but I also believe that we are called to fight evil.
I agree with much of what you're saying, and share your sorrow. But don't forget that the pollsters also lied their butts off during the last election and all of them all have biases.
The return of Jesus is an occasion for rejoicing for the saved. All that's left for us is to reach as many of our unsaved loved ones as possible with the gospel in the time remaining.
