Africa has seen the births or conversions of nearly 50 million people in the last year
New data, released earlier this year, announced that Africa holds the largest number of Christians in the world. This moves the reigning champs of the title, Latin America into 2nd place.
The Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, produced an infographic which breaks down the worlds Christian population by continent. The results show Africa on top with 631 million Christian residents, Latin America in 2nd place with 601 million Christians, and Europe in 3rd place with 571 million Christians.
CBS News reports the African countries with the highest percentages of Christian residents are Zambia (95.5%), the Republic of Seychelles (94.7%), and Rowanda (93.6).
A 2017 survey by the same group had Africa at 582 million Christians and Latin America at 591 million. This means Africa has seen the births or conversions of nearly 50 million people in the last year. Similarly, Latin America has increased by about 10 million.
North America is 5th on the list as far as population goes, with 277 million. They are however in 3rd place in percentage of the population, with 76% claiming christianity as their religion.
Christian Post explains that for the purposes of the poll, Christian is a blanket term:
According to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity, data was obtained from the World Christian Database and Christians include Catholics, Protestants, Independents and Orthodox. Excluded are unaffiliated Christians and double-counted.

Maybe Africa can sent missionaries to Europe and North America.
Don’t know how many China has but I’ve heard it’s a lot.
Done deal. African expats and immigrants from the former colonies are the ones keeping Europe's oldest churches alive and inviting their white colleagues/neighbors to church.
They are. Some great Nigerian priests here in the Catholic Diocese of Knoxville.
Over 90% in some countries and hundreds of millions. Maybe Jesus was wrong when He said (Matthew 7:14) “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
Or maybe they need to define “Christian” differently. For example, they are saying that there are over 70% Christians in North America (including Canada, which is pretty liberal).
Lets hope the Africans aren’t going to have an abuse scandal like we did by ordaining homosexual men looking to hide from the broader culture in a celibate clergy. I hope we don’t just end up exchanging missionaries every few centuries as we cycle between decadence and adherence to the beliefs of Christianity. Time will tell I guess, I can see it going a lot of different ways.
Freegards
They already do
Meaningless. Latin America Christian??? Give me a break. Their culture doesn’t bare it out. They are CINOs, a close relative to RINOs.
China
Its like wildfire there
Totally secret
Chicoms try to
Oppress but cant
And there's been at least one thread here about what others in this thread have already posted:
Reverse Missions to the 'Dark Continent': Africa is now sending missionaries to Europe
(I find it interesting to see how this thread has differed from the usual FR treatment of anything that mentions Africa.)
