TITUSVILLE, FL – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today released the following comment regarding a New York City abortionist sentenced to prison for killing a young woman after a botched second-trimester abortion.
“Dr. Robert Rho originally faced up to 15 years in prison for second-degree manslaughter for the death of Jamie Lee Morales in 2016, but then he agreed to a plea deal and now will serve just one-and-a-third to four years in prison,” Father Pavone said. “Ms. Morales and her baby were given the death sentence. There is no ‘reproductive justice’ in that.
“The very scant media coverage of the trial was disappointing but not surprising. Where abortion is concerned, America likes to look the other way. But the truth is that legal abortion does not mean safe abortion. Abortionists are the bottom of the barrel of the medical profession. They are unregulated and unscrupulous. Mothers are injured and sometimes killed by legal abortion and yet there is no outcry, no #MeToo or #TimesUp or #BlackLivesMatter activists lending their voices to uncover this truth.
“Priests for Life has been uncovering these atrocities in the abortion industry for decades. When you hear of one of these tragedies, know that there are many others that never come to light. As I say often, you can’t practice vice virtuously. If someone’s conscience is so dark that they will dismember babies, they will also kill women, falsify records, evade taxes, violate OSHA standards, use expired medications and equipment, and engage in a host of other atrocities that have been uncovered repeatedly in legal abortion clinics nationwide.”
Noting that Ms. Morales was six months pregnant when she was killed, Father Pavone added: “This was a very late-term abortion. As our series of undercover phone calls has revealed, healthy babies of healthy mothers are being legally killed even at 30 weeks and more. Americans need to open their eyes to the truth of what happens inside these killing centers.”
