...Aftermath: Part 3 was the sermon that got the most attention -- the one where Stanley suggested that you need to "unhitch" your faith from the Old Testament as he insisted the New Testament writers did. To make his point, Stanley taught from Acts 15 and the story of the Jerusalem council.
(snip)
...If Stanley said the conclusion of the Jerusalem council pertained to Mosaic dietary laws, how did he explain the command to abstain from sexual immorality? Not well.
Moral Decay
Stanley said, "If I were to hand everybody a 3x5 card, and I were to say, 'Tell me what you think this [sexual immorality] means or what this means to you, how many different answers would I get? About as many answers as there are cards, right?"
I hope not. There's only one answer to that question. Sexual immorality is any kind of sex or eroticism outside of the covenant of marriage between a man and his wife...
(snip)
"To send a bunch of Gentiles this, to abstain from sexual immorality, what does this even mean?" Stanley said, "This was a general call to avoid immoral behavior but not immoral behavior as defined by the Old Testament." By what standard is sexuality defined for the church? Stanley went on to explain that it is, "defined by the Apostle Paul who had been teaching in Antioch for two or more years."
(snip)
"Do you know what the Apostle Paul consistently tied sexual behavior to?" Stanley asked. "Not the Old Covenant. Not the Ten Commandments. The one commandment that Jesus gave us: that you are to treat others as God through Christ has treated you." That's certainly not wrong, but neither was it given any clarity...

Then you fail miserably as you never defend your position, but rather just state your opinion, and you make it personal pretty regularly.
You are wrong that the soul ceases to exist if you dont accept Christ.
Jesus talks about eternal torment.
Hes right.
You are not.
Oblivion? Non existence? Dude, you need to reread the Word. The whole thing.
What does John 3:16 say. Read it over and over and get back to me.
It doesnt say anything about non existence. You might want to read the Word in context. Its something Ive been trying to teach the Roman Catholics.
Read Jon 3:16 over and over. Do you read?
I think so, too. He was just very dishonest in his discussion of the Bible and I thought that really came across in how he speak and presented himself, like he was well aware that he was trying to deceive people. I don’t believe that someone who truly is a born-again believer could say so many of the things he did in that sermon series. He had an obvious agenda to undermine the Bible’s authority in people’s minds instead of teaching truly for their spiritual good.
Actually one of the first things he said about the Bible is that people revere it but don’t read it. He made it sound like nobody really does, and as a pastor for many years, and the son of a well-known pastor, he certainly knows it isn’t true that people don’t read the Bible. He also made it sound like nobody would or should really want to read the Bible, either. It’s sad to have to say, but his sermon series was a two-hour deceitful attack on God’s Word.
And so raiderboy what does believing in God’s only begotten Son mean to you then?
Yes, it does appear that way.
So you just believe the utterly ridiculous lies that those who hate and reject Christ say about the Bible?
The Gospel accounts and apostles’ letters that were eventually decided upon to be the New Testament officially were written by faithful Christians in the church. The other writings were written by people outside the church whose beliefs were never accepted by the church.
You twist the meaning of John 3:16-18, which is why you reject almost the entire rest of the Bible from what I recall.
Explain how that is twisted. Be very specific.
I disagree. One of us is wrong. If one is wrong , is that a sin? Are we forgiven of our sins?
No. The question is what does believing that Jesus is the Son of God mean to God? Right?
But we still need God’s Word to know what love really is, and people have an amazing ability not to see harm done to others when they don’t want to, either, such as in abortion or sexual immorality causing all sorts of harm to people that those who reject Christ can’t or won’t see. God’s Word identifies for us what sin is, and we can be sure that it causes harm, such as when Jesus said that if a man looks on a woman to lust after her, he’s committed adultery with her in his heart. We can and should believe him that lust causes harm.
Amen. Andy actually said that the OT was just a means to an end and made it sound like it’s not to be discarded. He completely neglected to discuss that Jesus is the prophesied Messiah and a whole host of other things about the OT, and of course, that was completely deliberate and calculated.
Total non existence. The Hebrew is Sheol. That means pit or grave. The Greeks translated to hades. That means pit or grave. But Jesus used the Aramaic Gehenna or of Hennon. That was the city dump in Jerusalem!! No eternal life there!! Wake up!!
No, those questions are two sides of the same coin. There are many people running around that rather than submitting to Christ, they try to make Christ submit to them. The people here talking to you understand that we have to be the ones to give, not Christ, who is God’s Word.
So we are NOT to read the Bible and judge it, and use ourselves as the standard to say, “Okay, I agree with this, but don’t with that, and I like this, but I don’t like that, and I’ll do what it says here, but I won’t do that, so my opinion is this is true, but this isn’t.” We’re to accept the whole Bible ON FAITH, and over time God will reveal more to us and change us.
If someone really believes in God, a God who in His mind created everything, from the stars down to our DNA, and including things that man is said to have “invented,” like automobiles, computers, etc., then that person will understand that we’re much closer to an ant in understanding than we are to God and have humility towards him.
If someone REALLY believes in God’s Son, including what’s said in John 3:16-18, then they will understand and care that God HATES sin. Jesus suffered what He did because God hates sin. If we APPRECIATE what God and His Son did for us, then we will want to do God’s will for us.
The Bible says God created us to do GOOD WORKS and He set up those good works for us to do in advance. That is His will for us. Do you pray, then? You haven’t mentioned prayer. Do you ask God what is HIS will for you to do?
Jesus spoke about Hell being a place of eternal torment. As God’s Son, He knows about it.
