On his visit to Albania, the Orthodox patriarch of Moscow invoked the unity of the Christian Churches to disarm religious radicalism. On the same day, his closest collaborator, Hilarion, pulled the breaks on ecumenical leaps. Between Catholics and Orthodox there is a common faith, but too many "contradictions and misunderstandings", such as the work of Card. Stepinac and that of the Greek-Catholics (uniates).
Moscow (AsiaNews) - The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill (Gundjaev), went on an official visit to Albania from April 28 to 30, where he was welcomed by the Archbishop of Tirana Anastas (Janullatos), leader of the Orthodox in the Land of Falcons. Kirill and Anastas, who has long been an Orthodox missionary in Africa, have also been close friends for over 50 years, and the visit took place in a particularly relaxed atmosphere. The Russian Patriarch said he was "impressed" by the growth of the Church in Albania, which reaches about 7% of the population.
According to Kirill, the most important thing is not only the construction of new churches and monasteries, social and educational activities, but the fact that "the Albanian Church today is able to speak with its people in a language understandable to it, in which it can understand what Christianity is in history ". In an interview with Albanian TV on April 29, the Russian Patriarch answered some questions, including one on the importance of religion in the fight against terrorism and radicalism. He stated that "there is no other argument other than the religious one, able to disarm the ideological foundation of radicalism and terrorism. If radicals appeal to religious truths and use religious ideals to motivate their extremist actions, then only true religiousness can refute them, through the intervention of their own religious organizations".
When asked whether religion should.........

Patriarch Kirill needs to get Putin to support the Right to Life.
And just whaat the hell does that mean?
IDK
“As an example of the difficulty of this process, the metropolitan recalled the canonizations of the saints impossible to accept by the Orthodox, including the eventual canonization of the Croatian Cardinal Stepinac of Zagreb.”
I’ve been saying it for years: If John Paul II said the Eastern Churches and Western Church are two lungs a more apt expression may be that the West is the Man and the East is the Woman. Every time there is an argument she brings up stuff from years ago. She never forgets but instead files everything away to bring up whenever it’s convenient. When you point out to her that the East canonized Photius I (formally only in 1847) even though he often had a poor reputation in the West, well, she says that’s not anyone’s business but hers. But if the West wants to canonize a man like Cardinal Stepanic, well, that’s just unbearable.
And constantly bringing up the “Uniates” is like a woman bringing up old girlfriends. Get over it! It was more than 400 years ago and they’re generally happy where they are - as happy as Slavs can get on Earth which isn’t very happy of course because they’re Slavs. But as soon as you bring up Western Rite Orthodoxy, oh, how dare you bring up her recent hook up with some Protestants!
And just like women, this patriarch spars with the Patriarch of Constantinople (which doesn’t really exist) like women fighting over whose original idea it was to have a bake sale to raise money for the new iconostasis.
But if history is anything to tell the future by, she’ll become sweater in her works and start batting her eyes at the Western Church when that mean and threatening Muslim guy starts harassing her to where she becomes really frightened. After all he’s beaten her seriously on several occasions when we were first separated and even imprisoned most of her for several centuries.
And the Man currently is going MGTOW, or sleeping, or something because he doesn’t seem to be answering the call right now.
I think the writer tripped on a homophone.
He tripped because he was blinded by his public school education and accepts as the word of God whatever his spellcheck says because he doesn’t know the difference.
IMHO, it all comes down to this Russian Orthodox Patriarch not being too happy WHO IS THE POPE right now.
If it was Pope Benedict and not Pope Francis, the Russian Orthodox Patriarch himself would be a LOT MORE OPEN to unity between east and west.
Really means put the breaks.
....While ignoring the two big dangers to the Christian faith, the radical left and Islamofacism.
I respectfully disagree. While it is certainly true that we Orthodox held B16 in high regard, it would be a mistake to try and gloss over the very real theological differences that separates Rome from Orthodoxy. The unhappy truth is that there are conflicting points of doctrine and dogma, starting with the mutually exclusive claims that both churches have to being the “One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church” spoken of in the Creed. For communion to be restored one of them is going to have to do a lot of climbing down. And speaking of the Creed... we don’t recite the same one anymore.
Rather for communion to be restored is the realization that “ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. Includes both sides.
If by “sinned” you mean “erred” in some important matters of doctrine, which is the issue, then I think your position is not representative of that of the Catholic Church. It certainly is not that of the Orthodox. Personal failings are not what is preventing restoration of Communion.
