The caring UK doctors said that little Alfie was brain dead and would die within minutes when removed from a ventilator. That was what, three days ago? Seems they missed something. Yet at no point do they seem willing to consider rethinking things? Or is it just a matter of pride and being so vested in what they’ve said, and how firmly they’ve said it, as if they were the voice of God himself, that at this point the worst thing they can imagine is the baby surviving and having a nice life? Horrible to imagine but that’s how it looks.

The hospital officials (or maybe it was that last odious judge) said that
worst case scenario was that Alfie's parents would accept Italy's offer to fly him to Gesu Bambino Hospital at the Vatican, which has already completed all the pre-admission arrangements.
Get that. The worst case wasn't that he'd die. The worst case was that he'd fly.
