ROME, April 4, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) Mainstream media was in a furor last week over the news of Pope Francis purportedly saying that hell does not exist and that unrepentant souls in mortal sin simply disappear.
On the eve of the Holy Thursday, an Italian journalist published an article claiming that the pope had told him that hell does not exist. Eugenio Scalfari, 93, atheist journalist and founder of the left-wing newspaper La Repubblica, claimed on March 28 that Pope Francis had told him two days before that the souls of those who do not go to heaven are annihilated.
Souls are not punished, Francis allegedly said. Those who repent obtain God's forgiveness and go among the ranks of those who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot be forgiven disappear. There is no hell there is the disappearance of sinful souls."
Scalfaris article and then the Vaticans vague warnings not to trust it was picked up by mainstream media worldwide.
The story was highlighted in the United States by the Drudge Report, whose online headline shrieked Pope Declares No Hell? It linked to a March 29 article by Michael W. Chapman of CNS News, who called Franciss alleged remarks a denial of the 2,000-year-old teaching of the Catholic Church about the reality of Hell and the eternal existence of the soul.

Always remember that the prime difference between a Protestant and a Jesuit is that the Protestant admits that they are not Catholic.
Is the Pope Catholic?
This one damn sure ain’t!
The Catholic Church did it to themselves.
I cannot wrap my arms around this new Pope. I have asked for forgiveness for this weakness but, still can’t shake it. He goes against so many things I have been taught to believe. It is hard when your faith is shaken up by someone you are supposed to admire as the vicar of the church.
Pat Buchanan said it best ....if there is no hell Jesus dying on the cross was pointless. This Pope is at best nuts and at worst a heretic.
Will i still receive my Amazon Prime?
This is fake news put out by an atheist journalist. The Pope has been on record many times talking about he’ll, Satan, demons, etc. I’m not a huge fan of this Pope but and definitely against lies to purposely harm the Catholic Church.
They chose a leader who represents their current beliefs.
Perhaps God is using this to call Catholics to turn away from a sinful vicar of the church and come to the Cross, where they will meet the True King of the Church.
Thank God, and my parents, I was educated by Dominicans.
Maybe Francis will believe when he finds himself in the sixth circle of hell with the other heretics.
But to call Catholics to take their Church back.
I wish you were right, but I doubt it. He very likely did say it. One of his heroes, the late liberal Cardinal Martini, was on record supporting the same ‘annihilation’ theory. If he didn’t say it or something close to it, the Vatican would have come out with a statement along the lines of ‘Pope Francis unreservedly repudiates the words ascribed to him and reiterates in no uncertain terms his belief in what the Catholic catechism teaches about hell and the human soul.’ Instead, their weasel words about the interview not being a precise transcript confirm the basic truth of the report.

True, the journalist (Eugenio Scalfari) is an atheist. But he is not just some guy who wandered into the Vatican, hoping to embarrass Francis.
Scalfari is a longtime friend of the Pope. I find it hard to believe that he would simply make something up in order to hurt an old friend.
On the other hand, I can’t believe that Francis would deny Hell. The whole thing is very odd.
Can we have Benedict back, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Catastrophic for the Catholic Church: World media reacts to Pope Francis denial of hell”
No more catastrophic than the various schisms the Church has had over the course of its history.
The Church survived those...it’ll survive Bergulio.
