I am relocating in a few months and would like to live in Southern California. It could be almost anywhere -- Santa Barbara to Temecula. The one **attraction** I am after is to find an evangelical (and Bible teaching) church with a choir, no entertainment, no band nor drum set on stage. Maybe, even a place where the pastor-teacher wears a tie and slacks, not jeans and a t-shirt.
Seriously --- Am I hoping for too much?
Ok rather than the word “interpret” let me use teaching ....we the wretched are usually at our lowest point when we realize that we cannot do “life” by ourselves and ultimately turn our souls and mind over to glorious God for salvation . Did not Jesus go to the worst segment of society rather than the better dressed and better off ? I understand what your looking for , but to have prerequisites in order to attend church is strange to me. Usually persons appearance is vastly improved after receiving Christ , and I am of the opinion that some of the Christian music is very nice. Rough crowd here in Freeper land......(joking!) Happy Easter to all of you and Glory to God .
The person who actually created that list has a questionnaire that churches fill out before acceptance to the list.
So these churches, at the time they filled out the questionnaire were very conservative, especially in music and other criteria the poster asked for.
BTW, this list is from David Clouds website. I apologize that I dont have a link but its easily found using Google.
went to a new church in Palm Springs and the music droned on for an hour with never the Name of Jesus mentioned. Could have heard the same music in any bar I ever visited.
If you look at the questionnaire you will see that not one of those churches on the Cloud list will meet ER8's doctrinal stance. This is not a criticism, just an observation of the facts. I believe that this site will shed some light on EliRoom8's preferences. Look up the section on "Repentance." "Free Grace" theology
For your information, I refer you to this except from that link:
"Hodges also says that he no longer holds to the change of mind view of repentance.[citation needed] In Harmony with God, Hodges says that there is only one answer to the question What must I do to be saved? Repentance is not part of that answer. It never has been and never will be.[citation needed]Would that be your understanding of what ittakes to be regeneratw=ed (=reborn_ by the /holy Spirit?
I apologize, I must have missed that.
Where did the opening post say anything about the BBF?
What is the BBF?
Jerry Falwell's Thomas Road Baptist Church is one of them, and his Liberty University likely is affiliated with BBFI.
My observations on them is that they are somewhat successful both here in the US and in the missionary field by acting as "sheep-stealers"; that is, enlarging their assemblies by attracting disgruntled members of other ongoing churches, more than focusing on developing their own methods for recruiting disciples from the unchurched segment of a locality.
Here's a sentence from the above linked page:
"The BBFI was the first group of fundamental Baptists to reject biblical separatism and to go in a contemporary direction."
(I'm probably going to take some hits for showing my prejudice in this matter. A heckofan attitude on Resurrection Day. But I've had some of my own experiences with them concerning their ethical conduct.)
Id agree with you.
I just didnt see where it was mentioned in the OP.
It wasn’t, but I have kind an idea of the author’s preferences.
**On other matters, I greatly disagree with the RCC (eg. transubstantiation, purgatory, Mariolatry, papal infallibility, priesthood, etc) and have no desire to become Catholic.**
No mention of disagreeing with their graven image obsession. Does that mean you’re fine with that?
Seriously, you are not one of the Lord’s disciples of you don’t keep his sayings. Remission of sins is one of his ordinances. Obey Acts 2:38. That’s what the original church still teaches.
They likely will hardly notice or likely even say hello unless you engage them first in an actual service, since they are mostly spiritually dead and erroneously trained to think that the Lord's supper is about the nature of the bread and wine, versus the showing the Lord's death by treating other members as being those for whom Christ died, which is the issue in 1 Cor. 11 .
I speak as a former weekly mass-going RC, CCD teacher and lector, who realized real regeneration's thru since deep repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus to save me on His account, and was prayerfully led out of Catholicism and into evangelical faith, thanks be to God.
While we contend for many basic Truths Catholicism also professes since they are warranted by Scriptural substantiation, on the same basis Catholicism is exposed as the most manifest deformation of the NT church, as Catholic distinctives are not what are manifest in the only wholly inspired record of what the NT church believed (including how they understood the gospels).
Praise God 1.6 billion Catholics and countless other Christians do not share you and your six pals demented worldview.
Happy Easter
Do you count among those claimed 1.6b Catholics Pelosi, Kennedy, any democrat who claims Roman Catholicism??
Those Roman Catholics who are post V2 or only those who are pre V2?
I have known a few Dallas Theological Seminary grads over the years. Good people. In fact, there is one, who posts regularly on the RF. I also met some Filipino Christians in Fairfield, Ca, who were personal friends with Ryrie.
If Simi Valley is nearby, our church there was traditional. Pastor wears suits. He works hard (many pastors now are soooo lazy! Traditional music. KJV. It’s more fundamental and traditional than any we’ve found wjen we mmoved here to the Bible Belt in TN. It’s Baptist.
We became close to the pastor’s family (his wife became my best friend). And they’re very conservative; we had some great political discussions over the years!
If interested, FReepmail me.
Placemarker
Go sell crazy somewhere else, we’re all stocked up here.
You’re right.
There could be as many as eight people that define their religion entirely by how not Catholic it is.
Obsessive Psychosis. You should really see someone for that.
Can’t answer the question can you so you go Alinsky?
