(Old Testament)

Deuteronomy 33:29

Blessed are you, Israel!
    Who is like you,
    a people saved by the Lord?
He is your shield and helper
    and your glorious sword.
Your enemies will cower before you,
    and you will tread on their heights.”

"YHVH Magen - The LORD My Shield"

This is not the Only Time Our God is referred to as a "Shield". In Genesis, God tells Abraham, "I will be a SHIELD TO YOU", and David calls God his "Shield" on more than one occasion. In Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, he says "Take up the Shield of Faith...", and compares Faith to Protection against flaming arrows. Those flaming arrows (or fiery darts) can be anything from evil thoughts, doubts, fears, wounded emotions, to outright lies and propaganda.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Earlier in this Study, we spoke of a little hand-held shield called a Buckler. This useful little shield was most effective in hand-to-hand combat, as it strapped onto the wrist and freed both hands for fighting. It was for when the battle got "up close and personal".

Such a shield would be useless, however, when facing a fright of arrows, especially ones tipped with fire. In this case a full-body shield is the only answer. Far from being an archaic weapon, modern SWAT Teams and Riot Police still use shields. New materials and techniques are employed, but the principle is the same: a barrier between YOU, and the oncoming attack.

The evil one knows about shields too, but often will use our own morality against us by using women and children as shields. Our aversion to harming hostages causes a dilemma the enemy is counting on.

Then we have the Hero Coach in Parkland who used his own body to shield his students, and died at the hands of an evil murderer. Greater love hath no man than this!

St. Paul describes the Shield as FAITH, and what better protection could we possibly have than that?

And then there were those who were trained, paid, and trusted to be the protective shields. When the time came for the correct response, however, it came from another place entirely.

But really, was anybody truly shocked and surprised by that seeming contradiction? Happens a lot, salvation coming from 'unexpected' directions.

My search engine is “duck duck go” and this came up with my search phrase:

Google got image of a soldier protecting children but not both images.

And Google is biased.
