Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Due to a legal issue regarding the house I lost nearly seven years ago, I needed to go back though all my documents from that era to prove that an old debt had been satisfied. In my move back to New England, it was very possible that a lot of records had been destroyed, and I spent the entire day going through reams of paper to find that precious document.
Every piece of correspondence, deed, release form, contract, memo, and fax cover sheet stared up at me with a hard memory. Suicide, widowhood, destruction, foreclosure, debt, and depression stabbed my eyes from each piece of paper as I read and sorted them, and copied the ones that would be relevant to my case. Finally, I found it! The page that stated that the mortgage on my home had been "satisfied" was embedded in the very last pile. (Of course, it was on the very bottom!). I copied the page and enclosed it with the other documents and went to the Post Office to send it "Special Delivery". A feeling of Freedom and Justification swept over me.
The last words of Christ on the Cross contain a Greek Legal Term much like that precious piece of paper. The Word was "tetelestai", which means "It is Finished" or "It is Satisfied". It is a word that was used on legal documents back in that time and served the same purpose as the one at the bottom of my pile of paper. Theologians can debate all they want about the shades of meaning, but none of them can describe the elation of knowing that One is Finally Free.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
