You can look back to 1913 or even earlier to spot the point where rot entered our republic, but at a minimum we can look back 50 years or so to the sexual revolution, feminism and the so-called Great Society.
Big social experiment in how to engineer a society for dependency on government. It hasn’t done anyone any favors. Some people will say that there were good outcomes — but they will say that stuff only because the government schools have indoctrinated them to believe that welfare, feminism and easy sex are all good things.
We need to actively turn this around. Not easy, but it can be done. In the UK, the time before the Victorian Age was considered a time of loose morals (the Regency). England decided that stuff was bad, and so they decided to push for propriety and middle class values. We can do that too.
Society has materially greatly prospered, under world peace and massive economic and technological development. Of course, the progressive nanny state contributed nothing to this - and is actually a dead weight on it. People very mistakenly conflate and combine these various social and economic aspects of our present society.
