I’ve always believed that Jesus was trying to reform Judaism, not start a new religion.

Humanity failed.

You really do need to read the Gospel of John. Jesus tells us clearly what He is about and why He came.

JOH3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God. KING JAMES BIBLE TOUCH - KJV (Kindle Locations 41587-41589). Kindle Edition.

Time is really short!

I think that is what it is. At least, that is kinda how I see it.

I think that is why he said that in salvation Jews are our allies but in regards to the message they are the enemy.

Jesus was the answer from the beginning. The fulfillment, or culmination of the Law. Humanity would never be able to succeed and God in His mercy provided a way back to relationship with Him. Sadly, some still reject Jesus and all continue to fail.

Not so much reform as fulfill. Judaism always pointed to the coming Messiah. many of the rituals and ordinances were made void upon His Crucifixion. The coming of Jesus on earth was the second greatest event to happen to mankind (after Creation).

Closer than the “churches,” anyway.

Judaism is just as man made as the churches we have today.

It is based not on the covenant, but on the Pharisees own false commandments. Yeshua demolished what Judaism had become through his miracles, each of which destroyed one of the more grevious of the Takanot.

The “christianity” that Eusebius cereated in the 4th century was just another man made farce with its creeds and other non-scriptural gibberish.

Jesus is a Baptist. :)

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
