Church of England bishops have blocked the introduction of a new prayer celebrating a transgender person's change of sex.
The House of Bishops was strongly urged to draw up the 'baptism-style' services for sex-change Christians by the Church's 'Parliament', the General Synod, last summer.
The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, was among senior figures who implored Synod members to vote for a motion asking the bishops to consider new official liturgies designed to welcome a transgender person under their new name.
The Reverend Chris Newlands, who proposed the motion, said it was 'a wonderful opportunity to create a liturgy which speaks powerfully to the particularities of trans people, and make a significant contribution to their well-being and support'.
But The Mail on Sunday has learned that the bishops rejected the move at a private meeting at Lambeth Palace last month.

Wow! Thank goodness there’s some common sense left in the Anglican Church.
How can a church with lesbian bishops be such trans-phobes?
Scientists, for the moment, need to stick to experimenting on lawyers rather than employing Anglican Bishops, as, with lab rats, there are at least some things that some Anglican Bishops won’t do . . . yet.
The scary thing is that the synod recommended it, and it appears that a sizeable number of the Lords Spiritual favoured it.

Used to be the Catholic Church stood almost alone against this crap.

I’m confused. I thought the Anglicans long ago accepted homosexuals in every way.
Unfortunately, not enough for me to go back! They are corrupt and apostate, no longer teaching the Bible, therefore the faith.
I grew up in the Anglican Church, which has sadly lost its way. I no longer attend or support a false faith gone astray.
I certainly couldn’t be part of it, either - the fact that they were even considering this “transgender” nonsense is incredible. The Church of What’s Happening Now.
