I have no idea who this guy is, but I doubt he was speaking formally on behalf of the Orthodox Church, which does in fact still use the old calendar. As much as this appeals to my reactionary nature, I would tend to think that restoring the traditional calendar for use as the civil calendar would create a lot of unnecessary confusion.

A reason why Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar was because the astronomers who worked for the Church doing Computus calculations for the date of Easter Sunday noted major inconsistencies with the Julian calendar.

Even after 3.5 generations of Communism and 1 of post-Communism, a lot of Russians and Ukrainians still use the Julian/Orthodox calendar in daily life. It’s really confusing at times if you live in a multicultural town (Why did half the construction crew want January 7th and 8th off?).
