Although a minor holiday, Hanukkah has become more relevant since the establishment of Israel. It is a nationalistic holiday that celebrates a miraculous military victory for Ancient Judea over the much more powerful Syrian Greeks, which echoes Modern Israel’s victories in 1948 and 1967 over the more powerful Arab armies.
As the Western world becomes more secularized, and more and more hostility is directed at religious Christians, there is some significance to the fact that Hanukkah coincides with the Xmas season, as Israel has gone out of it’s way to speak out against Christian persecution.
Thanks for posting. Jesus is the reason for the season! Merry Christmas!
