Active intercession?

Active intercession?

Question: Are the saints in heaven active in the affairs of Earth? Robert Bonsignore, Brooklyn, New York

Answer: Yes, we have a lot of evidence for that. But exactly how and to what extent they are aware and active is not fully known to us.

It seems unlikely that the saints can merely look down and watch us as though they were watching a movie, or that they can know our inmost thoughts. Such things are probably beyond their capacity and might even be considered intrusive of our privacy.

It seems safer to assume that the saints are aware of our needs and condition to the degree that God reveals this to them. Thus, if I am asking St. Anthony to pray for me, his capacity to hear my request is facilitated by the Lord and due to the membership both St. Anthony and I have in the Body of Christ. By analogy, the two members of my body that I call my hands can interact by the fact they are coordinated through my head. Jesus is the Head of the Body, the Church and everything in his Body is under his authority and coordinated by him, including the awareness and communion of various members of the body with each other.

You are aware Jerome did not originally want to include the Apocrypha and that other ECFs did not accord them as Canon?

Good to know FR is the ultimate arbiter of all things theological.

I check here first, next time I have a question.

/s, in case you missed it.

What we're doing here is exactly what Paul did...engaging in the conversation and sharing the Gospel.

Amen. Too bad some of these people do not have the complete Bible.

Too bad some have added to the Bible.

You are talking foolishness, and apparently have little or no understanding of the Bible or the history of Christian doctrine. Let’s begin with something that should be elementary among all Christians: Do you believe in the Nicene Creed? If so, you already have a great deal in common with the Catholic tradition.

If the Nicene Creed is in the scriptures, I believe it...

Let me ask you a question...What are you counting on to get to heaven???

Certain books of the “Apocrypha” absolutely do belong in the Bible, specifically the Maccabees, and are absolutely essential to understanding the socio-political, as well as spiritual setting of Yeshua’s ministry.

Without that understanding it is impossible to understand the gospels in any real way.

"Grandiose claims" - like the assertion that, as Jesus Himself commanded, that His followers should "be as one"?

All those on this thread who are seeking to condemn other followers of Christ - be they Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, or whatever WILL ONE DAY ANSWER FOR THEIR DISOBEDIENCE.

None of the creeds are in the scriptures, and in fact they are a pollution thereof.

The creeds are part of the “inherited lies wherein there is no profit” called out by Jeremiah.

As a "life long Protestant" who stands with the Roman Catholics....

do you submit to the authority of the Roman Catholic Pope?

Do you have idols of Mary in your house or church and kneel before these?

Do you say the Rosary?

Do you believe the appearances of the apparitions to be Mary?

Do you agree with Roman Catholicism's dogmas on Mary?

Do you accept the Apocrypha as inspired Scripture?

Do you believe in Purgatory as do Roman Catholics?

Do you pray for the dead as do Roman Catholics?

Do you believe in transubstantiation?

Paul would be in your doghouse I guess....as would John.

>> “It does not say the prayers were *to* the saints.

Ever.” <<

Absolutely correct!

All prayers must be directed to the Father, as we were empowered by his Son.

In Jesus’ own words, no less. Pray to God your Father. Jesus never said to pray to anyone in paradise, or to pray to the saints that would be in heaven, never said to pray to Mary. He gives clear instruction ad words as to how to pray.

But I guess Jesus is too wrapped up in his doctrinal beliefs for some people.

Yep. Scripture is crystal clear on this.

Your willful ignorance is profoundly disheartening. You are determined to justify condemning other Christians because they do not “toe the line” with your own peculiar denominational beliefs. You have shown not the slightest interest in growing, or learning, or expanding your theological horizons to accept other followers of Christ. I envy you not one whit, and fear for the divine judgment that lies ahead for you.

We Christians regardless of what church one attends have to stop fighting each other. It is not Christ-like and there is much against us believers at this time.

Thank you Biggirl! I seek only to support all those who trust in the precious Lord Jesus! I have lived in many places around this world, and have seen Christians who have suffered much more for their faith than us American Christians, who of course “have the true faith.” God bless!
