BOSTON, Massachusetts, October 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) -- Jesuit priest and papal confidant Father Anthony Spadaro said that Pope Francis holds that the Catholic Church can no longer set down general norms that apply to entire groups of people.
Spadaro, editor of the Italian magazine La Civiltà Cattolica, made the comment today at a conference at Boston College where liberal Cardinals met with dissident theologians to discuss strategies for implementing Pope Francis controversial teachings on marriage and family in dioceses across the United States.
The Jesuit priest told attendees that Amoris Laetitia, the Pope's 2016 teaching on marriage and family, recognizes that people living in "irregular" family situations, such as the divorced and remarried living in adultery, "can be living in God's grace, can love and can also grow in a life of grace."
"We must conclude that the Pope realizes that one can no longer speak of an abstract category of persons and ... [a] praxis of integration in a rule that is absolutely to be followed in every instance,"

Wow, here we have a top papal advisor denying the existence of moral absolutes or even an objective morality at all.
While we are not to judge individuals, we are certainly called up to judge certain behaviors as right or wrong.
So these people have decided they know better than God?
Very good point. We MUST judge objective, observable moral facts: words as true or false; ideas and ideologies as good or bad; acts as right or wrong.
We MUST NOT judge a person’s inner state or his/her eternal destiny, since these things are known to God alone.
600 years? What changed 600 years ago?
When a person calls themselves the Vicar of Christ and use that power to alter the interpretation of the Gospel
Care to cite specific examples? Nobody believed in Luther's doctrine of extrinsic grace before Luther. Seems like he certainly "altered ... the interpretation of the Gospel". Does he get a free pass from you?
I think you're making it clear that you never considered Catholics to be Christians in the first place.
So, since President Trump can fire and hire a number of Federal employees at will, this is precisely the same as him being able to amend the Constitution on his own authority ... a "distinction without a difference". Right?
Please tell me you aren't a lawyer.
I guess God is just a fad so why bother with the Catholic church? I mean, if it is just entertainment, there are betters ways to be entertained.
“since President Trump can fire and hire a number of Federal employees at will, this is precisely the same as him being able to amend the Constitution on his own authority “
Illogical analogy. Changing the number of people that execute the laws of the nation is not the same as changing the laws or the constitution.
>>I think you’re making it clear that you never considered Catholics to be Christians in the first place.
You could think that but it wouldn’t be correct. I think most Catholics are Christian. I don’t believe that the RCC organization is Christian. The universal (small c catholic) church is Jesus and the body of believers, not the last vestiges of a dead empire in Rome and certainly not in a Marxist Pope who was elected by the organization’s Cardinals.
>>Nobody believed in Luther’s doctrine of extrinsic grace before Luther.
No one? Rome was executing Reformers for a century before Luther. And there was this guy named Paul. Ask your priest about him.
what next, a hymn version of “I Did It My Way” or perhaps go full bore and build a new and improved Tower of Babel in Vatican Square.
The popes job is to safeguard the truth as handed down for the last 2,000 years. Good popes rarely speak in public and when they do you can bet your bottom dollar they speak the faith. The Catholic Church has not had a pope since B16th resigned.
Being "discerning" is fine - just seems that these days far too many are in the judgement business and totally forget their own sinfulness or carrying the Word because they get so involved in the sins of others.
So all you people who married opposite sex partners, especially the homos who went to conversion therapy to get the job done, and intend on staying with them for life, or remaining single after divorce? Y’all are chumps, say these new “Catholics.”
Seasoned Christians are to judge other *seasoned* Christians (Especially leaders of the Church), God judges those outside the Church. Christians preach the Gospel to those outside the Church, while holding Biblical standards within. You are correct, we judge ourselves and repent, however Matthew 18: 15-19, John 7:24, 1 Corinthians 5:12-13, Romans 16:17-18,
Right now society is crumbling, one main reason is that we have “churches” tolerating and accepting sin *within* them.
All the fire and brimstone condemnation, while ignoring that we deserve Hell as much as 99.999% of those we condemn is useless and against all Christian Principles...many forget that Jesus told us of the 2 commandments that satisfied all of the others: (version I use)
Love God with every fiber of your being ::: Love your neighbor as yourself -- for where there is Love, there is no harm and that in and of itself fulfills the intent of the law.....
Find out why Anton LaVey started his “church” after his observation. The same reason why many unbelievers mock the Christian Church now. This reaction against these observations have led to looser standards. The many “churches” in Europe and offshoots in the US which accept every behavior imaginable cry that they “love” too.
Your fire and brimstone strawman ignores enumerated Biblical standards that the body are commanded to apply in order to love a person, not to hell, but in the direction of salvation through Christ.
