I would be willing to bet this is actually fake news.
It might be happening but probably not. Or not in the way it is reported.

Chinese authorities ban children going to churches Restrictions on religion in China continue to mount under the increasingly repressive regime of Xi Jinping
And why would you bet this is actually fake news, aside from the plethora of such in general? Do you think this is inconsistent with Communism? From what I see this has been abundantly reported beginning Aug. 29, and is consistent with past Communist persecution, including some Chinese students being threatened by government authorities that if they don't stop going to the church they would be barred from going to college. Thus such persecution is neither new nor novel.
Earlier when this was first reported,
"A researcher for Amnesty International, William Nee, who spoke to MailOnline UK, said, At this point its unclear how widespread the ban on children attending church services are in China, but these alarming reports seem to be coming in from fairly diverse areas throughout the country.
She added, In an important speech on religion last year, the President, Xi Jinping, said that young people must study science, believe in science and develop a correct worldview and set of values.
It could be that the government is concerned that young people going to church or religious activities may challenge their monopoly on truth and the governments ability to instill its own historical narratives and worldview through the public education system. http://www.postrendy.com/china-bans-children-from-attending-churches-read-why/
