History is always more complicated than our tweet-length summaries make it. For some reason, I’d never connected Pope Pius’s change in the age for reception of the Eucharist with the rather awkward status of Confirmation. I know our Bishop is considering making changes, although I have no idea what he will propose. We in the Sacrament-prep biz will make do with whatever comes down the pike.

Our Diocese has a guideline of ages 13-18 for “standard” reception of Confirmation, with the usual group of students in your parish. My Vlad will be only 12 at the expected time of the Sacrament, because he’s a freak genius and started First Grade with his brother who is two years older.

Our Confirmation director will square it away, or I will make myself a nuisance to the Diocese! In retrospect, if I just hadn’t said anything and told him not to, they’d probably never have checked his DOB.
