Ruth is a picture of the individual soul in need of Christ’s redemption and mercy.

Bingo--that's why that gem is called "Ruth" and not "Naomi" or "Boaz" or "Moab: Goodbye and Good Riddance." The overarching message of Ruth is:

No matter who you are, where you're from, or what you've done, you're entirely welcome at the foot of the cross.

Astonishingly, exactly none of the original apostles understood that, or they wouldn't have so fiercely resisted the idea that Jesus' sacrificial atonement was for Gentiles, too. Only Paul understood, and God used him to announce and trumpet that vital message. Peter's obedient and educational visit to Cornelius sealed it at last.
