It seems to be the hallmark of a cult to tell people that they cannot understand Scripture and therefore need someone (usually them) to *interpret* it correctly for you.

Just believe us, they say, because we’re right.
But if you can’t trust Scripture, then why should we trust them?
Lots of people say that ... consider the "King James Only" folks, or those who vociferously reject the "Notoriously Incorrect Version". I bet there are even published translations that you would reject or recommend against (like, perhaps, the mormon translation ...).
THEN you get to ask them, "Why doesn't Headquarters (AKA the Living Prophet®) announce that GOD finally relented and WILL allow the Inspired Version© to replace the KJV in all of their Quads and other publishing?"
While this is sinking in...
Many Mormons have no idea they have a CREED of their own.
The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.
