The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

1 Samuel 5

The Ark in Ashdod and Ekron

5 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon. 3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. 5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon’s temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.

6 The Lord’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation on them and afflicted them with tumors.[a] 7 When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.” 8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, “What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?”

They answered, “Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.” So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.

9 But after they had moved it, the Lord’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.[b] 10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron.

As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.” 11 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it[c] will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy on it. 12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday was a beautiful day, so I hopped onto the Harley and rode all the way to historic Plymouth, MA for no reason...just to get out. I saw a Korean Restaurant with a parking space right in front, and I was delighted, as I LOVE Korean Food. When I went inside to order, I perused the interior. The decor was SO drab, industrial, and bare (I know, it's a STYLE, but it reminds me of the Company Cafeteria in Chapter 5 of Orwell's "1984"!) that this thought went through my mind. "Oh! This must be a NORTH Korean Restaurant!

North Korea has been on everyone's mind lately. I was born DURING the Korean War, 65 years ago, and they are still a problem. Several presidents ago we had a chance to stop their mad rush to obtain nuclear weapons (at the expense of their miserable, enslaved, starving population), but nobody did anything to stop them. Now the whole thing has landed in our Current President's lap.

The idea of "Norks with Nukes" is similar to the ancient story of the Ark of the Covenant in the hands of the Philistines. In fact the term "Philistine" has come to mean, in modern parlance, a society devoid of Culture, Sensitivity, Spirituality, and Beauty. When a people's lives have been reduced to scraping together the next meal, it is hard to participate in the things that make life and culture interesting or beautiful.

The Philistines obtaining the Ark is an example of this. Of Course, God allowed it to happen, because those who were charged with its care were disregarding the Holiness of the One True God, and abusing the honor. But the Ark did not go quietly. Having been placed in the ignominious place of the temple of the idol Dagon (a fish-god!) the Ark sends forth a Power that topples the statue and inflicts tumors upon anyone who gets near it. The Philistines move the Ark around their different towns to alleviate the problem, but the other people in those towns get the tumors too. With the tumors come a plague of rats. The combination of rats and tumors sounds very much like Bubonic Plague, or perhaps some other affliction. But whatever it was, it afflicted whoever was harboring the Ark of the Covenant.

The popular franchise of Indiana Jones started out with "The Raiders of the Lost Ark". Although it is a fanciful tale with lots of Biblical and Historical inaccuracies, the filmmaker did get it right at the very end, when Nazis try to open the Ark. While Indie and his girlfriend cling together with their eyes tightly shut, the Power from Within the Ark consumes, melts, and utterly destroys the evil ones who attempt to possess it. The images are so iconic that they pop up on FR all the time as gifs.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

I’m not the first one to notice that Hollyweird is able to tap into spiritual channels. Usually they do this to promote the dark side, but by doing so they also unwittingly release light.

It’s like Haman building the gallows for Mordecai, but then it’s Haman and his ten sons who are hanged on it.

Factual errors in the movie aside, the movie is responsible for putting the knowledge of the Ark of the Covenant out there on the world scene, no Jewish or Christian upbringing required. Hollyweird superceded all the religion lessons.

What is particularly amusing is the well-known “location” of the Ark, a US government warehouse.

Thus “everybody knows” that it’s the US government who has it but lost track of it in one of its own warehouses.

It’s Americans the world hates for being a world power, having a different spirit that the dark side can’t destroy, try as it might. Thus the Uniparty has been plotting America’s destruction from within, and was “almost there” when Donald Trump appeared on the scene. Foiled again!

The Establishment would go to any lengths to get its hands on this “Ark” (the source of power for We the People), but it was the same bumbling, corrupt government who “lost it” in one of its own storage facilities.

Now you’ve got a President who has all the keys, and a real work ethic, and would be just the guy to uncover that “lost Ark” and set it up properly, not misuse it.

Therefore swamp is freaking out, because the swamp water and electricity just don’t mix. :)

Once again, thank you for posting the KJV of this chapter. The King James gives a very interesting description of the tumors as “Emerods in their secret parts” which sounds REALLY nasty, much worse than the cleaned-up, modern word “tumors”. The NASB used the word “hemorrhoids” to translate these words, but that elicits an unfortunate belittling of the plague as something that can be cleared up with a little medicine available over-the-counter.

Nowadays the term “Tumor” is probably the most accurate, but interestingly enough, tumors can be both CAUSED and CURED by...you guessed it...Nuclear Radiation.

Which brings us back to the subject of North Korea, Nuclear Warfare, and the dangers of the elements of creation (The Atom) when in the wrong hands.

On that note,

The Ark was the 'heart of the home', and contained the Tablets of the Law, so it (the heart) was the repository for the Law, literally.

The enemy is determined to get inside of it, the Ark and the heart, in order to remove the Law.

The thing that the grave robbers don't factor in, is that the Ark, the heart, is not dead. They expect to rob an easy target, not face an armed homeowner.

Now we all know that the Bible is alive, and not a blob of useless text. So I find it interesting that the first letter of the Bible is a bet, and the last letter is the letter Nu (in the last word Amen, Rev 22:21, a Hebrew word).

bet - בית (house)

nu - נו (3rd person plural possessive suffix)

Put them together and they spell beiteinu (ביתנו), our home.

Home is where the heart is.
