Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

1 Samuel 1

The Birth of Samuel

1 There was a certain man from Ramathaim, a Zuphite[a] from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 He had two wives; one was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.

3 Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord. 4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb. 6 Because the Lord had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. 7 This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. 8 Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?”

9 Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s house. 10 In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

12 As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”

15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the Lord and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,[b] saying, “Because I asked the Lord for him.”

Hannah Dedicates Samuel

21 When her husband Elkanah went up with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the Lord and to fulfill his vow, 22 Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, “After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the Lord, and he will live there always.”[c]

23 “Do what seems best to you,” her husband Elkanah told her. “Stay here until you have weaned him; only may the Lord make good his[d] word.” So the woman stayed at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.

24 After he was weaned, she took the boy with her, young as he was, along with a three-year-old bull,[e] an ephah[f] of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. 25 When the bull had been sacrificed, they brought the boy to Eli, 26 and she said to him, “Pardon me, my lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. 27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As we continue to follow the Ark of the Covenant through Scripture, we jump to the Book of 1 Samuel to find it housed in a temporary structure in a place called Shiloh. Although we have skipped over the Book of Judges, and the The Book of Ruth, we are not ignoring their content, as both Books have essential elements that will come together later. Somehow, the Ark of the Covenant has survived the bloody upheaval depicted in the book of Judges, and the Levitical Priesthood is intact as well. And, during this stressful time, a love story in Bethlehem is underway that will eventually produce King David, and later, The Messiah.

The period of the Judges was filled with Lawlessness. If one verse can be extracted from that time that describes the "zeitgeist" (always wanted to use that word, LOL), it would be "Everybody did what was right in their own eyes." "Judges" has shown us that a society without The One True God quickly descends into the very worst people can be. The Book contains murder, rape, dismemberment, human sacrifice, and all kinds of mayhem. Meanwhile, The Ark of the Covenant seems to be in hiding, patiently waiting for the miraculous birth of a Prophet, when everything will change.

The opening chapter of 1 Samuel introduces us to Hannah, a pious though barren woman in a "dysfunctional" family, who does more than the prescribed prayers and sacrifices at the Tabernacle at Shiloh. She has a PERSONAL relationship with the Almighty, and communicates her prayers to Him directly. She does not neglect the law, however, but is able to go beyond it in her intimacy with God. Eli, the Priest, is not necessarily an evil man, but he is totally "out of the loop" when he sees this woman moving her lips in prayer. To him, Hannah's fervency looked just like drunkenness, and he rebuked her! How many times have we ourselves misunderstood someone's motives and have rebuked a person unjustly?

As we shall see later, Eli was doing the rituals, but was unable to even instill proper spiritual ethics into his own sons, who also "served" in the Tabernacle. This ineffectiveness, leniency, and disregard for the Holiness of God would lead to disaster, both for Eli and for the People of Israel. It also involves the Ark of the Covenant, so stay tuned.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Hannah Presenting Her Son Samuel To The Priest Eli"
Gerbrand van den Eeckhout – 1621 -1674

OW there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

2 And he had two wives; the name of
the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

Truly an inspired post, with many prophetic words, on many levels. I am inspired by them routinely!!!

Meanwhile, The Ark of the Covenant seems to be in hiding, patiently waiting for the miraculous birth of a Prophet, when everything will change.

Shiloh is next to a village named "The return of Rachel".

Now if one were to travel in that direction (heading east from Shiloh) toward Jerusalem, the route would not be Rt. 60, aka "The Way of the Patriarchs", but rather 458. It follows all the way south the meet up with Rt. 1 which goes into Jerusalem.

Anyway, last night I had in mind to check to see if there were a road in Israel numbered 458, because it related to the Ark, so I thought that was kind of important. You just never know.

I hadn't gotten to that yet when I read your post and merely went to a map to check out Shiloh. Well there it was, Rt 458, running just east of Shiloh. Much appreciated! That's how these things go, stuff just falls into line like that.

Because that happened, I might as well explain what it is with the number 458 and the Ark.

It's the volume: 45/8 cubic cubits. 2.5. x 1.5 x 1.5. I've always seen it expressed in the decimal, 5.625, but because .625 = 5/8, there's a neat little fraction there.

45 - Adam
8 - ahav (love, v. - [he] loved); ha-av (the father); haba, the coming one, the one who is next et al (e.g. Olam Haba, the World to Come). All the same letters.

The Adam (man) who is to come is coming along with the revelation of all knowledge, kind of like the opening the Ark and all the light blasting out and killing people due to the intensity. And then there's Rachel who is tied to the process but that's another track. Her return is noted there right on the map next to Shiloh, though. Can't miss that.

The full value of those words, Adam and haba, are 625 and 529 respectively - 25 squared and 23 squared, so of course the next spark is what about 24 [squared]. You can see how these thing veer off in all sorts of exciting directions. For example, the difference between 625 and 529 is 96, so divided is 48-48, at the point of 577.

But back to the original thought, it just seemed like with all that, 45/8 looks like 458 with a "dividing line" between "Adam" and "Haba", the coming one. Well sure, 5777 years thus far. Actually 5777 - 930 (the life of Adam), 4847 years. 4848 years coming up in 5778.

The dimensions of the Ark are given in halves so the volume can be expressed by a whole number in terms of a "half cubits".

2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 cubits = 5 x 3 x 3 "half cubits", 45 cubes (building blocks) each the volume of a "half cubit".

So there's Adam (45) as the volume of the Ark. There's more with the volume ratio of the Ark of the Covenant to the ark of Noah (1/80,000), meaning that the volume of Noah's ark was "80,000 Adams", human souls as it were. There were 8 on that ark, so what a "coincidence" that these numbers interweave 8 and 45 (450,000 cubic cubits) with the souls.

It goes on (ties right into what the "Little Man" did, by whom (the mother), and how many souls were instantaneously killed (~80,000), and by what method ( a bright blast, atoms, the building blocks of matter), but I think what is particularly intriguing is that the light was given a name, "Day", and that the volume of the Ark is 45 cubic "half cubits", the building blocks of "Adam" (45).

Adam is comprised of the letters that have these values, in this order: 1-4-40.

1440, the number of minutes in a day, 24 x 60.

Gen 1:4. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness: 5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night; And there was evening and there was morning, one day:

Last three words: boker yom echad. Boker yom (morning day = 358, Mashiach) + echad.

358 + 13 = 371, the value of half of a new shekel, the modern coinage ("shekel chadash" = 742, so half of that)

Half shekels are for the atonement of souls, "Adams".

All sort of secrets to the ark. That was fun! ;)
