The pope is the supreme, and only authority.

No. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, who is the ultimate of authority of the Church. He is charged with protecting Church Teaching, Dogma and Tradition.

While Pope is the earthly head of the Roman Catholic Church, his authority has restrictions on it. He is a monarch, but nowhere has the Church ever taught that he can contradict Church teaching, or the good of the Church.

A monsignor does NOT have the authority to declare a latae sententiae excommunication, which is best declared only for actions that are clear-cut rather than words (e.g. successfully procuring or helping to procure an abortion). If anyone were serious about this, the layman who would be excommunicated should have an opportunity to receive a formal charge, and respond to it. Latae sententiae is a lazy out, and should apply to every Catholic government official who has voted for abortion would be subject to it if it were that easy. (Of course, they may already be, and they are likely in a state of continuous mortal sin and cannot recieve Cmmunion anyway).

That’s all true, but just a minor point: “monsignor” is a mis-translation of the Spanish or possibly Italian original, where monseñor is the title used when addressing or speaking about a bishop. So these are bishops, actually, the Colombian bishops’ conference, apparently.

That said, if they chose the latae sententiae route, essentially saying he has automatically excommunicated himself, that means that they didn’t want to do a formal excommunication, probably because they knew there simply weren’t grounds for it. Cowardly weasels, in other words.

THANK you.

There had to be a difference between “obedience to a Holy Father” and being led to perdition!

Scripture is plain that Wolves will be among the Sheep and will lead many to perdition. Seems to me that what is obvious today is crystal clear in that scripture passage.

The Rome crowd seems to change nothing on paper, but fiddles with everything, in practice. This enables them to claim Tradition, officially, while in practice allowing deviant interpretation willy nilly.
