In the night of July 16-17, on the anniversary of the killing of the holy Royal Martyrs, the penitential Royal Procession was held in Ekaterinburg from the place of their killing to the place where their remains were hidden, where today stands a monastery in honor of the holy Royal Martyrs, reports the site of the Ekaterinburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The cross procession began immediately after the Divine Liturgy which was celebrated by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, along with Metropolitans Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan and Kirill of Verkhoturye and Ekaterinburg, and Bishops Benjamin of Rybinsk and Danilov, Innokenty of Nizhny Tagil and Serov, Theodosius of Isilkul and Russko-Polyansky, Methodius of Kamensky and Alapaevsk, and Eugene of the Middle Urals.

Among the participants was State Duma Deputy Natalia Poklonskaya, who is quite vocal about her love and veneration of the Royal Martyrs, reports RIA-Novosti.

At about 3 AM, after the Divine Liturgy, the faithful began their prayerful march along the path along which the last imperial family was led in 1918. The procession was led by the hierarchs. According to preliminary estimates, more than 60,000 participated in the nighttime procession, which matches the number from last year. However, whereas there were about 3,500 communicants last year, this year there were around 7,000.

Let’s never forget who the murderers were.

Bernie Sanders went back to the Socialist Mother Ship—The Soviet Union—to spend his honeymoon with his new wife Jane in 1989. His fealty to murderous, authoritarian socialism should never be forgotten. “Democratic socialist” he is not. His heart is in the crypt with Lenin.

While I think Nicholas II was an unfortunate "leader" during the tense times of the First World War and the Revolution, there is no way he and his family deserved the ignominious fate they were accorded by the Bolsheviks, who, after degrading them for months, finally murdered the entire family in cold blood in a filthy basement. The Romanovs may have been stupid, but they didn't deserve to die like that.

And the Terror unleashed by the Reds was certainly no better than the "oppression" of the Tsar.

I’m fairly certain the American Left hates Russia now because they are overtly Christian. They loved them when they were Godless Communists...

Tsarist Russia, in its last 20 years or so, executed about 7 people a year for political offenses.

Soviet Russia, in its first year, executed about 18,000 a month for political crimes.

Czar Nicholas begged George V (his cousin) to let him and his family come to England before they were taken prisoner, but he refused. Queen Mary (George V’s wife) took (stole) some, if not all, of the Romanav’s jewels. Nice family — not!

Agreed. Remember the movie “Dr. Zhivago”? There was this idealistic liberal character who witnessed an assault by the Tsar’s dragoon early in the movie. Then later after the revolution and he got in power he became 10 times the mass murderer that the tsarist police ever were. I think inside every so-called idealistic leftist is a statist totalitarian just dying to emerge.

One of the reasons I consider Dr. Zhivago the greatest movie ever made.

If you want to watch a real depressing film, watch, "The Chekist", a Russian movie that was produced around 1992.

Yep, and their political prisons were of the type where family members could come to visit and that sort of thing. Very sort of quaint 19th century. It was the Bolsheviks who brought real 20th century political brutality into existence. They were the ones who turned the corner and brought the nightmare.

A beautiful icon of the martyred Royal family. A shame that the British monarchy was too frightened of its own future to give them sanctuary.

This year 2017 marks 99 years since the massacre. It’s sobering to think how quickly Tsarist Russia collapsed and how many decades afterward they remained in spiritual darkness.

There was a girl of Russian ancestry in my eighth grade class in 1959. Her grandfather had been a bodyguard for Czar Nicholas.

I wish one of our teachers had asked her to bring in her parents for ‘show & tell’. A lot of history there!

My wife and I visited the tombs of the Romanovs when we were in St. Petersburg several years ago. At the time, it seemed as though their memories were being treated with respect.
