Bob, synagogues weren’t instituted by God. They were a tradition the Jews brought out of Babylon. Jesus and Paul both went into them to teach the Jews until they were run out.

My question remains: Where was anyone commanded to “go to church” on the sabbath?

Thanks for your response.

I am not understanding what your concern is. There were assemblies from the beginning. Moses had them and The Prophets had them from time to time. Jesus attended them as did the Disciples.
Hebrews 10:24,25 states "24And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. 25Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

The purpose was an exchange of ideas, to encourage one another, renew friendships with long lost friends and relatives, to praise God and much much more. Do you have a fear of public places or do you have something against the structure dedicated to the assembly?
