Thank you for the post. Unlike some of the others who posted here, I hold the belief that God has the power and can talk and reveal truth to anyone at any time.... without contravening the Gospels.

I acknowledge their God-given right to believe what they believe, and could wish they would accord others the same dignity and respect. If people powerfully disagree in spiritual matters, there are ways to nicely and respectfully express that disagreement, rather than by lashing out.

Good question. Two reasons: one, they called for a sign on October 13, 1917, and that is when 40,000 people witnessed the "Miracle of the Sun". Even if you attribute that to mass hypnosis or an optical illusion, what cannot be explained is how everyone who was ankle deep in mud were clean when the sign stopped and the storm ended.

The second reason is because of the prophecies that have come to pass:

Russia will spread her errors throughout the world

The war will end soon, but a greater one will come a short time after

There will be fashions that will offend Our Lord

and others.

The children themselves became pious, and did not personally profit from the visions. Our Lady also would say the two of them would die soon, and Lucia (the oldest) would not. This happened, with Lucia passing on well into her 90s.

That said, no one is obliged to believe in the visions, and it wrong to let the details of the vision replace prayer, penance, fasting and the Teachings of Our Lord. Anyone who truly understands the messages as presented should agree.

It is now nearly a generation into the 21st Century. The Word is the Word, unless it's a lie. Then it's just some charlatan spewing a load of crap. A lie occurs when something proves to be not true - like a specific event prophesied to occur within a specific time period. Words matter.
