In my humble opinion Pontius Pilate was not only NOT evil but he will probably be saved at the judgment. He certainly had the potential to be a very good man.
The Jews at the time of Christ were the only people in the history of mankind that were so wicked they would crucify their own God.
This fact plays into God's plan for our salvation. Jesus would come to earth, gain a physical body, learn through mortal experiences pain, anquish, temptation, and joy. He would overcome all things, suffer to pay the price for sin, then His body would be put to death, and He would over come death and take His body up again. The first of Heavenly Father's children to do so.
But in order to be put to death, Jesus would have to face the wrath of the Jews. However, they were restrained by the law and could not themselves kill Jesus. They had to be taken before the Roman authority.
That authority being Pontius Pilate. Pontius Pilate was also restrained by the law, he couldn't refuse the demand of the Jews to execute Jesus. Even though, he himself judged Jesus to be innocent.
He washed his hands of the affair wanting no part of it.
This is the reason why Jesus didn't teach the Romans about his divinity nor did they witness any miracles. Pontius Pilate didn't know who He was. And Jesus didn't tell him He was the Son of God nor did He perform any miracles in front of Pilate.
Had Jesus shown Pontius Pilate His divinity as He had the Jews, Pilate would never have given the order to crucify Jesus. And that was not the plan of God.
In the end, Jesus pleaded with His Father to forgive the Romans for their part in His death. The truth had been purposely with-held from them.
There is an argument to be made for Pontius Pilate, so don't be too quick to judge him.
Why waste your time on Free Republic? You should be writing a book. Making a movie. Something big. Don’t waste your time here.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. ~John 18:36
How about shifting into you manic phase and posting again??
Are you not aware that I can call on My Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? ~Matthew 26:53
Quirky religious vanities used to be an everyday thing. Not so much, these days, so it’s kind of refreshing.
Jesus didn’t perform any miracles in front of Herod either.

You would be better served by addressing his argument rather than calling him a heretic. What exactly makes this an LDS issue?
I think he makes an interesting point.
You know this because...?
Are you aware that the centurion was a Roman for whom Jesus performed a miracle?
We discussed something similar in Sunday School class last month certainly not LDS.
My impression of Pilate, from reading Scripture and Josephus, is that he was a cynical, crooked politician, thoroughly corrupt and heartless. Sort of like Hillary Clinton, in other words, except that Pilate was actually competent.
That such a man realized that Jesus was innocent is amazing. That he didn’t have the courage to stand up to the crowd and to the Jewish leaders that threatened to trash him with his Roman masters is exactly how a corrupt politician would act today.
Get ready for the unleashing of the hounds of hell on you. But I will stand with you.
Not only do I believe Pilate was forgiven but so was Judas. And Jesus left it up to Judas to tell the others what he would do because he had to do it .... It was his destiny.
Excellent point, backed by scripture.
The post, by a member of the mormon cult, states this:
This fact plays into God's plan for our salvation.
The mormon plan of salvation is false.
Jesus would come to earth, gain a physical body, learn through mortal experiences pain, anguish, temptation, and joy.
Mormonism teaches that Jesus was a created spirit being that had to come to earth to get a body, go through experiences, live a worthy life and then become a god - one of 4 earth gods - but one of millions or billions of gods. The first of Heavenly Father's children to do so.
Mormonism falsely teaches that worthy mormons will follow this same path - in order to become gods. This is false.
He would overcome all things, suffer to pay the price for sin, then His body would be put to death, and He would over come death and take His body up again.
Mormonism teaches that the atonement for sins happened when Jesus sweat drops of blood in the garden - and not on the cross, as Scripture teaches.
