Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
When I lived in Florida, I discovered that homeowners there have a unique problem. The roofing tiles, made of ceramic or concrete, have a tendency to grow mold. In just one year a white or red tile roof can become greenish-black, and one has to hire a professional (DON'T do this yourself!) to climb up on the pitched roof with a power-washer and steam it clean. Well, at least I didn't have to shovel snow while I lived there!
In the Middle East, the roofs are flat, because it is not necessary to pitch the roof for snow. Because this provides a whole new floor, and doubles the square footage of a person's living space, the roof was an extra family room, suitable for sleeping, doing laundry, or just getting out of a hot house. There are many stories in the Bible about sleeping on the roof, and Bathsheba thought it was a good place to take a bath, as she erroneously thought she had a little privacy.
But, like Florida's mold, stuff would accumulate on these Biblical roofs as well. Seeds carried by the wind would sprout, but then quickly burn up in the sun and be swept away. I had the unique experience of being caught in a torrential downpour in Jerusalem after nine months of NO rain. The stuff that came cascading off the roofs was really NASTY.
The Psalmist uses this wonderful example to show how the LORD will wash away the wicked and their deeds. Having experienced the metaphor personally, I REALLY appreciate this Psalm!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
God Bless America!

On our knees, in prayer, together, praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, for our nation, for our families and friends, for those facing, suffering, or remembering persecution for relief, release, or peace. In Jesus Name. Amen.
