Pope Francis once again decried a rigid approach to Christianity, in his homily at a morning Mass at the Vatican on February 6.
God created the world and then created man, the Pope said, To have someone... with whom to share his fullness. Then to set things right God sent his Son to redeem the world. This is the great challenge of faith, the Pope said: to recognie the wonders of creation and redemption and to receive the gift of the Father.
In this context the Holy Father said that some people are unable to receive the gift, and instead have sought refuge in the rigidity of the Commandments. He advised Christians to ask themselves: Do I hide in the rigidity of the closed Commandments, that are more and more safe, but that do not give joy, becaues they do not make you free?
Pope Francis at Mass: be open, receptive to God's gifts (Vatican Radio)
Well, adultery can bring “joy” right? Otherwise, why would anyone commit it? What I’m getting from the Pope is we should be “free” to feel that joy. If I’m wrong then this guy is not very good at delivering a message, to put it nicely.
Best post.
I just reread the Commandments, and the only ones that seems hard is coveting.
Didn’t Jesus say that if you love me you will keep my commandments.
He said that he gave us (believers) a new commandment, that we (believers) should love one another as he has loved us, that way the world will know that we are his by the love we have for one another.
Didn’t he also say to learn from him as he is meek and lowly and that his burden is easy and his yoke is light.
Just a thought.
The “theology” is that the laity need to know the Catholic Faith well enough to enable them to ignore or denounce heretical clerics.
Some of them will, and most will not. Many laity will resist. Many will be deceived, and stick with Bergoglio. Some will not be deceived, but will depart and find a Protestant church that isn’t teaching Bergoglio’s heresy.
It's also funny how the bible doesn't end at the Cross...And it's funny how Jesus didn't tell any one that a bishop must have a wife and children, but Jesus told Paul to tell us that...
It not just hard, it's impossible...
Im not convinced this Pope believes in God.

In other words, you don’t think this “Pope” is a Pope.
You would think this would be enough to charge him with heresy and remove him.

A man is automatically removed upon manifest heresy according to the Church’s authoritative teaching.
Now it is a matter of the faithful removing themselves from him as I and numerous others have done, submitting only to true Catholic authority which enjoys apostolic succession and adherence to pre-”Vatican II” (unchanging) theology.
Good Morning! Paul tells us that if we accept any of the old law then we must keep it all (impossible). The early Christians wanted to require circumcision and keep the old Holy day customs while following Jesus. Paul warned them that this was not possible - they had to be all in for Jesus and accept his sacrifice as a replacement for the old covenant. This does not mean that the old law was bad, but that they new law (love God and love your neighbor) was better. Augustine summarized it this way: “Love God and do as you please.” Our obedience will not get us there. Faithfulness in Jesus will. An over-emphasis on obedience takes the spotlight off of the sufficiency of Christ.
Typical liberal doctrine, which is as long as it makes you happy it is OK with the Lord. If it feels good do it without guilt or remorse. This Pope is to Catholic religion what Obozo was to the Constitution.
Perhaps the Roman catholic church needs to read Romans written by Paul moved by the Holy Spirit.
19Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;
20because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
21But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
26for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
28For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
30since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.
31Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
Romans 3:19-31

Catholics are not permitted to take lessons from Protestants nor read Protestant renditions of the Holy Scriptures, nor to study the Holy Scriptures without legitimate Catholic commentary.
That being said, one would do well to read Jesus’ words on the law as seen in Matthew Chapter 5.

Where do you get that from? I have books by Billy Graham, C.S. Lewis and others who make some wonderful insights into Scripture that don’t contradict Catholic doctrine.
**Funny how Jesus never says anything like that.**
While your reply to impact player is partially correct; and mostly because he is forgetting a LOT of admonition to the church members about sinful behavior, found abundantly in the epistles, Jesus also (and his original apostles) never, ever, said the phrase: “God the Son”. Do you?
Do you believe that the Son of God is God, separately and distinctly from God the Father? If so, please go to John 1:1-18 and tell me in which verses the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God the Father is NOT present.
I know I’m veering from the main topic, but you chose to call out someone that is not using the whole of the testimony of Jesus Christ.
“...Where do you get that...?”
In the 1917 Code of Canon Law, see canon 1242.

Since there is a Father, there must be a Son.
Since there is one God, the Father and Son are inseparable.

Can’t have people thinking for themselves, after all. They might actually get to know Jesus.
No offense intended re: your faith. But the whole ‘not even allowed to read the Bible for yourself’ thing really grinds my gears.
That confirms and explains a lot of what we've been told about catholics and the Bible.
However, it contradicts the examples we see in the OT and NT of people reading and learning from the Scriptures without any "legitimate catholic commentary."
Even the commentary by haydock not appears to be out of date in light of V2.
The 10 commandments stands between man and God as a standard for perfection. Man sees it from his point of view, and the Sermon on the Mount is a description of it from God’s point of view, and the standard is much higher than man ever imagined. This is at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. However, once the New Covenant is instituted at the end of His ministry and sealed by his sacrifice, Jesus stands between man and the Father in the place once occupied by the 10 commandments. Thus, obedience is replaced by faithfulness - faithfulness that Jesus has fulfilled (completed) the requirements of the law on our behalf, so that when the Father looks upon us all He sees is the perfection of Jesus. Our sins have been removed as far as the east is from the west. Thus, our place before God is now fully restored the the position held by Adam and Eve before the first sin. The created order has been fully restored. All we have to do is accept and believe. Praise be to Jesus!
