Pope Francis once again decried a “rigid” approach to Christianity, in his homily at a morning Mass at the Vatican on February 6.
God created the world and then created man, the Pope said, “To have someone... with whom to share his fullness.” Then to “set things right” God sent his Son to redeem the world. This is the great challenge of faith, the Pope said: to recognie the wonders of creation and redemption and to “receive the gift of the Father.”
In this context the Holy Father said that some people are unable to receive the gift, and instead have “sought refuge in the rigidity of the Commandments.” He advised Christians to ask themselves: “Do I hide in the rigidity of the closed Commandments, that are more and more ‘safe,’ but that do not give joy, becaues they do not make you free?”

And all this time I thought they were commandments..........
The part of the Church that is called Protestant suffered this about 40 years ago. Leftists trying to subvert from within.
The disadvantage was that they were in smaller bodies, so it required fewer saboteurs to reach critical mass of apostasy.
The advantage is that they are not monolithic, so those suffering heretical leaders can simply leave. Or excommunicate apostates.
Catholics endured the worst of the Marxian infestation 40 years longer, but now they reach the point of critical mass, and with no outlet of being able to leave them behind. Since what I know about Catholic doctrine is that you have to be Roman Catholic or else you’re damned forever... but now it’s getting to the point where to be Roman Catholic means having to endorse mortal sins? You can’t leave but you can’t stay.

I don’t know. My opinion: There’s either A: going to be a schism in which each side claims to be the ‘real’ church and excommunicate all the others. Which will then beg the question of what the marks of the ‘True Church’ are.
Or B: No one does anything at all and people keep pretending that everything is fine until that moment that it’s not.
For the Catholics on here (except for those who are just going to insult me), I am wondering. Is there some kind of theology for if the entire church hierarchy or at least a majority has become corrupt but there’s no way to oust them?
So adultery is OK now?

Thankfully Christ died once for our sins and He has become the Redeemer of those who will have faith in Him. The Law cannot save you....only faith in Christ.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
WTH??? Following the Commandments ARE what make you free!! ANd able to get to spend eternity in heaven!!

The Commandments are not a law to Christians but a teacher...Odd that for the first time ever Catholicism has a pope who seems to 'get it'...

Nope...Because no one has ever followed the Commandments all the time which would be required to make you free and go to heaven...
Trusting that Jesus died on the Cross and paid the penalty for all of your sin will set you free...And by following his commands to Love God and Love your Neighbor, you will fulfill those Commandments...
Except that you never will fulfill those Commandments because no one ever has, except Jesus...Jesus died to pay the price for those Commandments we will fail at for us...
