Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

(Psalm 61)

Psalm 61[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. Of David.

1 Hear my cry, O God;
    listen to my prayer.

2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,
    I call as my heart grows faint;
    lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For you have been my refuge,
    a strong tower against the foe.

4 I long to dwell in your tent forever
    and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.[b]
5 For you, God, have heard my vows;
    you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

6 Increase the days of the king’s life,
    his years for many generations.
7 May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever;
    appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.

8 Then I will ever sing in praise of your name
    and fulfill my vows day after day.

How Wonderful,

Our Hearts overflow with praise and Wonder at Your Glory!
You Alone Are Worthy of Our Love and Adoration,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

To be consistent, I am posting the NIV Translation of this Psalm. However, I do recommend the King James Version for the shear beauty of the language. It is the KJV that appears on most of the graphics I will be posting today, where "When my heart grows faint" is rendered: "When my heart is overwhelmed. "Overwhelmed is such a dramatic and descriptive word, and I wish the modern translators had kept it.

What follows is a prayer for the king. We are enjoined to pray for "those in authority", which sometimes is not easy. In fact, for the last 8 years there was a joke going around to "Pray for Obama...Psalm 108:9 (look it up!). My prayer during this awful National Nightmare was "Please, Lord, let all secrets be revealed, and that which is hidden be brought into the Light." I am "overwhelmed" at how this particular prayer was answered!

VP-Elect Mike Pence has publicly declared his dependence upon Jesus for his Salvation. President-Elect Donald Trump has made less obvious statements, but there are hints that it may be true for him as well. In any case, it has now become a Pleasure rather than a Duty to pray for our Nation's leaders!
