There have been many different first Thanksgivings in America. The descendants of the Pilgrims were the first to want to remember and honor it by celebrating it yearly. I haven’t heard that any of the other groups, with rightful claims to a first Thanksgiving, had descendants who did so.

Plus, it was the escape from the political dictates of The Church of England that was the motive for the Pilgrims. That's the difference.

And it became enshrined in the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of The United States.
