Laudatory Vatican Newspaper Review of Book on Jesus and Women

The Vatican newspaper has published a rare front-page book review lauding Gesù e le donne (Jesus and Women), the newest book by Enzo Bianchi, the 73-year-old lay founder of the ecumenical Monastery of Bose.

For a thousand years, writes reviewer Lucetta Scaraffia, the women of the Gospels have been “ignored by a patriarchal tradition.”

The Gospels, she continues, discuss “real women, full of troubles, but also able to love more than men, able to understand the revolutionary message of Jesus in its immediacy.”

“It would be beautiful to think that after this book, so enlightening … nothing could be as before for the women of the Church,” she adds.

OK, red flag number one is the “ecumenical” monestary, number two is the word “patriarchal”, number three is the ignorance ( feigned or real ) about how the Church honors the female saints of the Gospels- to the point that we are accused of giving latria to Mary. The snide remark about the women being able to love more than men is presumption, especially considering the many male martyrs (unless they are speaking of Mary who did have the capacity to love more given the greater grace she received from God).

The church is 2000 years old, but she claims they have ignored women for 1000 years.

Nothing emasculates men more than many Catholics insistence that women are more “loving” or “good” than men and that it is women’s vocation to “make men “good”.

That assumption puts a burden on women no person can meet. How many women stay with infantilized men because “it is their duty to make him good?
