UNITED TOUR: Mississippi and Alabama

November 2, 2016 fall2016jackson3

The Mississippi rally took place in Jackson … outside the last remaining abortion center in the state.

fall2016jackson1

There isn’t a single physician in Mississippi willing to commit abortions, so this facility uses circuit-riding, out-of-state abortionists to end the lives of approximately 2,100 children every year.

fall2016jackson2

Hope-filled rally attendees prayed together and heard Jor-El Godsey of Heartbeat International as well as a state senator and a local pregnancy center director … while abortion workers and advocates waved vulgar signs and angrily heckled throughout the entire event. Pray that the messages they heard today will soften their hearts!

fall2016birmingham1

Despite the bus being delayed by electrical issues requiring a bit of service, Alabama had a great state rally in Birmingham.

Silent No More Awareness regional coordinator Jacquie Stalnaker shared her heart-wrenching testimony of being forced at gunpoint to have an abortion … while three members of the clergy led the crowd in prayer for an end to abortion.

fall2016birmingham2

EWTN television hosts Jim and Joy Pinto reminded attendees that regardless of the outcome … after the dust settles from next Tuesday’s election, we still need to keep answering God’s call to save lives.

It’s 45 states down now and 5 to go … continuing tomorrow in Georgia and Florida.

Bogota, Colombia

November 2, 2016 fall2016bogota7

“So far in Bogotá, three women who intended to have abortions have said ‘yes’ to the life of their babies,” said one of the 40 Days for Life team members.

In the final stretch of the campaign, “we are happy and we continue our mission with strength. We have received the support of hundreds of people who have joined this vigil of prayer and fasting for the end of abortion, for the defense of the lives of the most defenseless.”

fall2016bogota8

People from various churches, schools, universities and other groups have all come together, including “men and women with incredible stories that have helped us to understand in depth the meaning of this silent evil that spreads all over our society.”

The vigil has allowed the local team to send a message to the community about the reality of abortion … and to provide a ray of hope for women in stressful situations.

“There is still much to do,” the volunteer said. “This is just the beginning!”

Northern California

November 2, 2016 fall2016napa1

Matt Britton, the 40 Days for Life board chair, recently had the opportunity to visit local leaders and volunteers in four California cities … offering encouragement and thanking them for their hard work.

fall2016mountainview1

In Mountain View, he and Bob, the local leader, prayed with a group on a busy street corner in front of the local Planned Parenthood center … then met with the Real Options team, who provide life-affirming resources right across the street from Planned Parenthood.

fall2016napa2

Ron and Howard, longtime leaders of the 40 Days for Life vigil in Napa, met and prayed with Matt outside their city’s Planned Parenthood facility. Isidro has taken on the leadership spot with this campaign … but Ron and Howard brought the first 40 Days for Life vigil to Napa in 2008. This is their 17th campaign!

fall2016walnutcreek2

It was prayer with the volunteers again at Planned Parenthood centers in Walnut Creek and San Rafael. At both locations, Matt was able to pass along stories about the international growth of 40 Days for Life … and how more than 12,000 babies have been spared from abortion during 40 Days for Life vigils since the first coordinated campaign took place nine years ago.

DAY 37: More babies saved!

November 3, 2016 fall2016canton2

Through God’s blessings, 12,371 babies have been saved from abortion during 40 Days for Life campaigns — that we know of!

That number continues to grow!

Here are just a few quick reports of babies — so close to becoming statistics — who are alive today because of your prayers.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN: “We’ve just confirmed that three babies have been saved last week … two on Wednesday and one on Friday! God is good!”

ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: “We had a lady go into Planned Parenthood … came out and said she changed her mind! She did not have an abortion! Praise God!”

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND: “One baby saved! A 20-year old lady, eight weeks pregnant, took our information envelope. She decided against having an abortion.”

DOVER, DELAWARE: “Four babies spared … and in Wilmington, twins spared!”

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA: “We’ve had two definite saves and have walked two moms down the street to our pregnancy support center for ultrasounds … God is so good!”

UNITED TOUR: Georgia and Florida

November 3, 2016 fall2016forestpark3

A big crowd came out for the vigil stop in Forest Park, Georgia.

fall2016forestpark1

Attendees responded enthusiastically when the local leader, Deacon Leonard, announced that three babies have been saved here since this campaign began!

Just this past weekend, Pregnancy Aid opened a new center next door to the busy abortion facility … and the director, Marla, thanked the crowd for their prayers and help which made that possible.

fall2016atlanta1

We pulled a huge crowd to a busy Atlanta street for the Georgia state rally … where local leaders announced that six lives have been saved during this campaign at Atlanta-area vigil sites!

fall2016atlanta2

Many drivers honked in support … and several even pulled over to join the event and pray with us. The last speaker, Pastor Ed, shared that in more than 25 years of pro-life involvement, he’s never seen a ministry make as much of a difference or save as many lives as 40 Days for Life!

fall2016gainesville1

We wrapped up the day with our first state rally in Florida, in the college town of Gainesville.

The local 40 Days for Life leaders reported to the crowd that two lives have been saved here since this campaign began, bringing the total number of confirmed lives saved since September 28 to 575!

fall2016gainesville2

Next: A full day in Florida with stops in Altamonte Springs, Sarasota, St. Petersburg and a rally in Tampa!

Vukovar, Croatia

November 3, 2016 fall2016vukovar6

“Their testimony is wonderful!” said one of the Croatian team leaders.

We know of several couples who first met on the sidewalk outside of places where abortions take place … and later got married.

And now — add Lucia and Joseph to the list.

They met in front of the hospital in Vukovar … and now they’re married!

Lucia and Joseph just returned to the sidewalk in front of the hospital – in their wedding clothes – to pray for an end to abortion on the very spot where they first saw each other.

“We want to congratulate you on what you have become,” the team leader said, “a family before the Lord. Thank you for everything you have given to the campaign. With this beautiful testimony of love, we wish you a wonderful and blessed day.”

San Fernando Valley, California

November 3, 2016 fall2016sfv5

“Oh, my goodness, what a week!” said Patti, the 40 Days for Life leader in the San Fernando Valley.

“Four lives saved in just one week – wow! And seven total for this campaign. And those are just the ones we know of! “

Patti spoke to a man who saw two women walk into Family Planning Associates in Mission Hills … women who were planning to have abortions. But they walked out a short time later with teary eyes and changed hearts – just because of the prayerful presence on the sidewalk outside.

fall2016sfv3

Days later, two more women rejected abortion at the last moment. One of them did speak briefly with a counselor before she entered the building, quietly saying that she didn’t need any help and her mind was made up.

But as she approached the door, a priest who was praying with the 40 Days for Life group walked up to her and gave her a fetal model.

She stopped.

For several moments, she looked at the small baby in her hand … and then went inside.

She was there for less than 15 minutes.

Before she went in, her mind was made up. When she came out, she told volunteers she had changed her mind.

“Over the years,” Patti said, “we have had literally dozens of women and men come back to us, thanking us for being there because they were headed for an abortion, saw someone silently praying on the corner … and consequently changed their minds!”

She said these people often return months or even years later – with their babies – tearfully thanking the prayer teams for being there.

“That is the power of our peaceful, prayerful witnessing,” Patti said. “We pray and witness — and God does the rest. There’s no screaming, no arguing, no threatening, no condemnation – just peaceful prayer and witnessing.”

DAY 38: Save a life this week

November 4, 2016 archive-cluj-napoca2

With just a few days to go in this 40 Days for Life campaign, ask yourself … “Can I go out to pray and help save a life from abortion?”

One of the local 40 Days for Life leaders in upstate New York had an encounter that can help you answer that question. One of the local 40 Days for Life leaders in upstate New York met a woman with a story to tell.

She was pregnant and distressed, and was headed to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. But when she got there, she saw a lone woman … on the sidewalk … praying … in the rain.

That was all it took. She changed her heart and her mind … and is now the mom of a 3-month-old boy.

As we head into the final days of this 40 Days for Life campaign, please take the time to find the nearest 40 Days for Life vigil and pray for an end to abortion:

https://40daysforlife.com/browse-campaigns/

If you haven’t been out yet, it’s not too late! And all you have to do is stand and pray.

UNITED TOUR: Florida

November 4, 2016 fall2016altamontesprings5

Our full day in Florida began with a nice crowd at the vigil stop in the Orlando suburb of Altamonte Springs.

Two media outlets covered the event! Local leaders report five confirmed saves here since this campaign began.

fall2016altamontesprings6

Staff members from the pregnancy care center next door said that during this 40 Days for Life campaign, the abortion center where volunteers have been praying has reduced hours and had a noticeable decrease in customers!

fall2016sarasota1

The faithful of Sarasota, Florida came out in great numbers to witness for life outside the Planned Parenthood mega abortion center during the vigil stop … while abortion workers stood outside the building and listened to the entire event.

fall2016sarasota3

The pro-life coordinator for the Catholic Diocese of Venice, Jeanne Berdeaux, who has helped to coordinate 40 Days for Life campaigns in this part of the state for a long time, thanked the volunteers for their prayers and efforts here over many years.

fall2016stpetersburg2

It was the middle of the afternoon on a weekday … but enthusiastic people turned out for the vigil stop in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The prayer volunteers responded enthusiastically when Sarah, the vigil coordinator, announced that three babies have been saved from abortion at the local site during this 40 Days for Life campaign.

fall2016tampa1

At our final event in Tampa, local leaders reported that 11 lives have been saved from abortion during this 40 Days for Life campaign!

A local Telemundo TV news crew covered the rally. The attendees, some of whom drove several hours from other parts of the state, got creative and used a step ladder to find the few remaining available spots to sign the bus — since it is now covered by thousands upon thousands of signatures.

fall2016tampa4

It’s good that there are only three days of the tour remaining, or we’d need a second bus to hold this massive display of support from across America!

Nasaud, Romania

November 4, 2016 fall2016nasaud2

“I think that it is so great that prayer for life became a common thing in our community,” said Daria, the 40 Days for Life leader in Nasaud.

The campaign has gone very well so far, although at first it was challenging to encourage more first-time volunteers. “But God sent new enthusiastic people, willing to pray at the vigil location for several hours every week.”

Once, a young man approached one of the volunteers and he told her his story. “My girlfriend is 19 and she is pregnant,” he said. “Her mother is persuading her to have an abortion. But I don’t want it at all.”

He made it clear he’d be willing to do almost anything to encourage her to change her mind.

“The amazing thing is his strong desire to keep the baby,” the volunteer said. She considers the young man’s determination to be a fruit of all the prayers being said for an end to abortion in Nasaud.

In the eye of the storm

November 4, 2016 fall2016milwaukee6

Dan Miller always has a story to tell. But then again … God puts him in places where so much is happening!

Choose your metaphor. Dan’s on the front lines … in the eye of the storm … in the belly of the beast.

“I’m not shy about proclaiming my pro-life convictions on Facebook,” he said. “I get friend requests almost every day from people from all over the world. If we have even just a few friends in common, I’ll probably accept your friend request.”

Not long ago, he got a private message on Facebook – a man who’d seen Dan’s posts and wanted to do more himself.

A couple of weeks later, the man called and offered to volunteer at Pro-Life Wisconsin, where Dan is the state director. He also mentioned he was out of work.

So Dan asked him what he had done previously.

The man – Dan is calling him “John” to give him a bit of privacy – said he’d worked as a security guard. Dan asked him where.

“Planned Parenthood,” John said.

Dan’s jaw dropped. “What made you quit?”

“I didn’t really quit,” John answered. “I was fired, but gave them no choice. I needed the job, but I just couldn’t do it anymore.”

spring2015milwaukee1

What made the difference? It was the many conversations he had with the people praying on the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood.

“The one that affected me the most was this little old lady. One day we were talking, and I told her I was pro-life,” John said. “She said to me, ‘You’re not pro-life! Look at where you are earning a paycheck!’ She tore into me pretty good – like no one else had ever done. It was on that day that I stood up to my boss and said, no more!”

John told Dan he’d wrestled with the situation, and others had tried to convince him to find work somewhere else. “But that little old lady really got to me! She helped me to stand up for myself. Now I’m free.”

As they continued to talk, John said he’d see women inside the abortion center who were struggling with the whole notion of having an abortion. He had encouraged some of those women to leave and never come back. Some got out. Some did not.

“He saw the evil of Planned Parenthood up close and personal,” Dan said. “The cold indifference of the employees always shocked him.”

John often thought, “My God, what am I doing here?”

spring2015milwaukee7

Dan encouraged John to return to the place where he’d once served as a security guard – and join the people on the sidewalk in prayer. “Let them know that you finally got out. They’ve been praying for you for a long time – they’d really appreciate it.”

He replied, “I’m kind of broke – but I would love to do that.”

Dan offered to drive – and maybe even buy lunch.

“I have a feeling John and I are going to become fast friends,” Dan said. “Praise God!”

Abortion is monstrous! We adopted 3 infants. They were all 3 born before abortion was legal. Not that they couldn’t have been aborted anyway but thank God they were not.

DAY 39: One quits … one flustered

November 5, 2016

As this 40 Days for Life campaign draws to a close, it’s clear to see the effect your peaceful, prayerful witness has had inside the abortion centers.

In one location, an abortion worker has had a change of heart and left the business. This makes 137 employees who have experienced conversions and quit their jobs during 40 Days for Life campaigns!

Other workers are just plain irritated. Volunteers talked to a taxi driver outside the abortion business where they were praying. He agreed to take some of their leaflets and keep them in his taxi.

But one of the abortion facility’s employees saw this … ran over … and snatched the leaflets out of the driver’s hand. The staff member then said she would surrender the materials – but only if the vigil participants agreed to never hand them out again.

Obviously, that didn’t happen. The employee realized she’d overstepped her bounds and returned the leaflets.

Tomorrow’s Day 40 – let’s finish strong!

UNITED TOUR: Florida and South Carolina

November 5, 2016 fall2016jacksonville3

The final Florida rally in Jacksonville was the hottest, most humid stop of the UNITED tour thus far.

The local leader, Mary Catherine, said that during this campaign, the abortion center has not performed abortions on four days when they would normally be scheduled.

fall2016jacksonville5

Margaret Foster, a former 40 Days for Life leader from Helena, Montana, was in town with her husband and they attended the rally. Margaret’s story of the first life saved in Helena is told in chapter 33 of the 40 Days for Life book.

fall2016jacksonville6

In addition to dynamic local speakers, Jor-El Godsey of Heartbeat International rejoined the tour and will be on the bus through North Carolina.

The day’s final stop marked the 48th state of the UNITED tour, with a South Carolina state rally in Charleston.

fall2016charleston3

Several years ago, a circuit-riding abortionist pointed a loaded gun and threatened 40 Days for Life volunteers who were peacefully praying in the public right-of-way outside this facility. He was subsequently arrested, and the faithful prayer volunteers pressed on, undeterred by his actions.

Alex, the local leader, reports the volunteers have noted a significant reduction in the number of customer cars during this campaign.

Munich, Germany

November 5, 2016 fall2016munich4

On the first day of the vigil, the abortionist came out to speak to the 40 Days for Life volunteers in Munich.

He told them that he was happy doing his job … and he hoped that the vigil participants would become seriously ill from pneumonia as a result of being outside for all this time. During the first Munich campaign earlier, abortionists had written in large letters “a woman’s right to choose” in all the windows of the abortion facility. So the vigil does receive a response.

About two weeks ago, a young man came crying to the 40 Days for Life team and begged them to talk to his girlfriend, who had an appointment for an abortion. They tried, but the conversation seemed pointless because the young woman was determined to have the abortion.

fall2016munich2

But then just this week, the young man returned – with his girlfriend. And both were crying. She had now decided against the abortion. She would be going to a pregnancy care center – and the volunteers were invited to their baby’s christening. “Praise be to Jesus!” said one of the team leaders.

40 Days for Life’s international campaign director, Robert Colquhoun, and board chair, Matt Britton, visited Munich recently. They found a campaign that is facing – and meeting – major challenges.

“The police inspect their vigil almost every day and are extremely intrusive, needing to know everything about their vigil — names and exact arrangements,” Robert said.

fall2016munich1

The team is led by Martina, a Croatian national living in Munich, and most of the volunteers come from the city’s 50,000-member Croatian community. “Martina has struggled to get Germans involved in her campaign,” Robert said.

During their visit, Robert and Matt visited with German pro-life leaders, appeared on a German radio program and spoke at a campaign event.

Only one German was at the event – everyone else was Croatian. “But they were inspired and encouraged with what Matt and I said,” Robert observed, “and I think it will encourage them to finish their prayer vigil to the best of their ability. I was proud of Martina — doing a great effort in a difficult country!”

Barranquilla, Colombia

November 5, 2016 fall2016barranquilla4

This is the second 40 Days for Life campaign in Barranquilla. “We pray for the end of abortion in Colombia and the whole world,” said one of the local team members.

And the community has embraced the vigil. “There are people that have promised to take turns daily,” the volunteer said. “Religious communities and priests are supporting us, and we have been spreading the word on the local media.”

The team says the local police “keep them company” at the vigil.

“We keep praying — for every baby that has been aborted, that is being aborted and that will be aborted. Your prayer can save lives — and has already done so!”
