This "teacher" is more than sloppy. How many years has he been teaching? Sloppy work goes to the burn pile.

Sounds like one of those guys who will nonetheless show up at the King's palace, expertise and five-star reviews in hand, expecting to be hired to build the Temple. All the prestige, after all!

What would the King say? A: "Who are you? You never worked for me."

Anybody bother to check what these folks blather on about? Few. The evidence is that these so-called teachers have great followings.

Go in at 1:00:00. He talks about the prophecies in Zechariah re: "The Branch." Then he continues to explain that this "branch" is in the Hebrew "netzer". WRONG. It's >tzemach<. He then takes this blatant error and moves on to Matthew 2. He's talking about this "netzer". Did he just slip up and refer to the wrong passage about a "netzer"? Maybe, but he just kept going with it.

Whatever, because,

He then shares his expert knowledge about the etymology of netzer (Impressive! /s), but the doctrinal chain breaks at the weakest link. Where is that? The plain text of Matthew 2. WHO is the one who the prophets called a Nazarene (nazir)? He even admits that there's no prophecy about the Messiah being called a Nazarene, thus goes on that's it's really this word play blah blah blah...

Do these guys even read the plain text? Do their followers? Well if they did, they'd see that the antecedent to *he* [shall be called a Nazarene] is JOSEPH. On down the line, the text is all about what JOSEPH is doing.

Matthew 2:19-23

19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled [completed] which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Just as Matthew said, the prophets said JOSEPH would be called a Nazarene (nazir).

Nazarite = "one separated"

Jacob and Moses:

Genesis 49:26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate [5139] from his brethren.

Deuteronomy 33:16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated [5139] from his brethren.

from 05144; TWOT - 1340b; n m
AV - Nazarite 12, undressed 2, separate 2; 16

1) consecrated or devoted one, Nazarite
1a) consecrated one
1b) devotee, Nazarite
1c) untrimmed (vine)

Dreams, Joseph, Egypt, coming up out of Egypt, separated... no clues there? At all?

There's the real word play. Just as was stated much earlier in the narrative,

Joseph was a PARABLE over all of Egypt.

MASHAL: governor, parable

...they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Same scholars, different day. Vengeance is the Lord's, because he is the master of "return on investment". Oh Haman, just look at those gallows over there, how convenient... you worked so hard to make them. Thanks!

Who is this MASHAL indeed.

PUN

noun: pun; plural noun: puns

  1. 1. a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.

He laughs. After all, in *Isaac* shall Abraham's seed be called.

Of course nothing he says is correct. He is a Christian using Jewish texts to “prove” something no Jew ever believed and something the Torah doesn’t say!

He can’t read or write the language, hasn’t studied for years under a competent rabbi, doesn’t know Oral Law, hasn’t studied any of a dozen secondary works and hasn’t spent time with others who HAVE, to learn from them!

How could he know?

If Christians just imagined for ten seconds what it would be like for an imam who couldn’t read a word of English telling them about Jesus, they would get a small sense of the absurdity.

He’s probably a nice guy, husband, and father. His ‘classes’ make people feel good and he gets positive feedback. That’s about it.

Now for a proper translation and Rashi, who just might know more than this guy:

6:12 And you shall speak to him, saying, “So said the Lord of Hosts, saying: Behold a man whose name is the ******** Shoot ********, who will spring up out of his place and build the Temple of the Lord.

Rashi

“whose name is the Shoot”:
He is Zerubbabel, mentioned above (3:8): “Behold, I bring My servant, the Shoot,” since his greatness burgeoned little by little. Some interpret this as referring to the King Messiah, but the entire context deals with the [time of the] Second Temple.

“who will spring up out of his place”: From royal descent.
